Former West Germany captain and Hamburg star Uwe Seeler dies at 85
Uwe Seeler, a veteran West German leader and recognized captain of Germany, died unexpectedly at 85. He devoted his whole career to Hamburg and has always been known as “our Uwe” in the hearts of football fans. Hamburg, Uwe Seller’s previous club, revealed his death on Thursday, confirming evidence obtained from the late forward’s relatives.
The heart throbbing career of the legend-
Uwe Seeler had been among the global highest attackers throughout his footballing career with Hamburg and West Germany, which lasted mainly from the mid-1950s toward the beginning of the 1970s, and he received numerous accolades.
The seller was named West Germany’s Football player of the Year thrice during his career: in 1960, 1964, and 1970, the same Year he had already been bestowed West Germany’s Governmental Cross of Merit. Despite not winning the Championship for West Germany, he seemed to be the second player designated honorary leader of the national football team in 1972.
He led Hamburg to win the German football championship in 1960, 3 years well before Bundesliga was formed, and the German Championship in 1963.
His brand persona, nevertheless, was built not so much because of his international football successes but by being parallel to the ground, honest, and affable nature, which won him the moniker “uns Uwe” (our Uwe).

On November 5, 1936, Uwe Seeler was born into a sports family in Hamburg. His dad, Erwin Seeler, was a renowned striker in Hamburg, mainly from the 1920s through the 1940s, so it should be no wonder how he entered the Hamburger SV in 1946.
