Gabriel Jesus was ruled out of Arsenal’s pre-season friendly against Monaco on Wednesday due to a knee injury.
Arsenal confirmed the Brazilian will be assessed by the club’s medical staff, with Eddie Nketiah handed the opportunity to impress in the Emirates Cup clash.
The Gunners now face an anxious wait to discover the extent of the injury ahead of the new season.
Mikel Arteta’s side face Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday.
The Gunners then begin their Premier League campaign at home to Nottingham Forest on August 12.

Eddie Nketiah was handed the opportunity to impress instead in the Emirates Cup clash
Jesus missed a large chunk of last season after undergoing knee surgery following an injury he picked up during the World Cup with Brazil.
In total, the striker missed 12 Premier League games before returning to action at the start of March.
However, he failed to prevent the Gunners’ title charge collapsing as they picked up just 12 points from their final nine games of the season.
In total, Jesus scored 11 goals and provided eight assists across 33 games in all competitions.
In the clash with Monaco, Nketiah was handed the chance to push his case for more first-team involvement as a result of Jesus and fellow injured forward Folarin Balogun not being involved, with Arteta also handing him the captain’s armband.
Fabio Vieira, Gabriel Martinelli and Nketiah formed the front three, while Declan Rice made his home debut.
Nketiah repaid his manager’s faith by scoring in the 1-1 draw, before the Gunners emerged victorious on penalties 5-4.
