It’s been a harrowing month for Bronny James, LeBron James and the James family as a whole. On July 24, Bronny suffered a cardiac arrest during a practice at USC‘s basketball facility.

He was hospitalized for a few days before being discharged, but more importantly, he had survived. Since then, James has been away from the USC basketball team as his future is up in the air.

On Friday, a James family spokesperson released a statement.

After a comprehensive initial evaluation… and follow-up evaluations… the probable cause of Mr. James’ sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) has been identified. It is an anatomically and functionally significant Congenital Heart Defect which can and will be treated. We are very confident in Bronny’s full recovery and return to basketball in the very near future.

All in all, it’s great news for James that the cause was identified and he is expected to make a full recovery. Being able to return to playing the sport he loves is just an added bonus.

Life since the incident

James was gearing up for his freshman season at USC. Their first game of the 2023-2024 season will be on November 6 against Kansas State.

Since the incident, James hasn’t been seen much in public and the family has tried to maintain privacy. He did make an appearance at a Los Angeles Dodgers game earlier in the week and seemed to be in good spirits.
