Actress Natalie Portman has weighed in on the Luis Rubiales scandal, supporting Jennifer Hermoso’s side of the argument.

The controversy exploded following Spain’s victory over England in the FIFA Women’s World Cup, then the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation kissed Jennifer Hermoso on the lips during the ceremonies.

Hermoso said that she didn’t like the kiss, whilst Rubiales argues that it was consensual and refused to resign from his position alleging a ‘social assassination’ was taking place.

Subsequently, FIFA suspended the president for an initial 90 days and the Spanish government has opened legal proceedings to charge the 46 year old with sexual assault against Hermoso.

Hermoso has received a wealth of support from colleagues and society, including Spanish legends Xavi and Andres Iniesta.

Standing in unity with the woman footballer, the coaching staff of Jorge Vilda resigned, and her teammates refused to represent the national team for as long as Rubiales remains in power.

Among the latest to add her name to the support is Natalie Portman, known for playing Padme Amidala in the Star Wars series and Jane Foster in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The actress took to Instagram and wrote: “I stand with @JenniHermoso #SeAcabo”.

‘Se acabo’ is a hashtag in a similar vein to #MeToo and is synonymous with the scandal translating to ‘It’s over’ in English.

Rubiales’ mother on hunger strike

It emerged on Wednesday that Rubiales‘ mother, Angeles Bajar, had decided to protest against the treatment of her son by going on hunger strike.

Bajar reportedly locked herself inside of a church and refused to eat, claiming ‘inhuman’ treatment of her son by society following his actions at the World Cup final.

His cousin, Vanessa Ruiz, also voiced support for the president.

“We are suffering a lot for him,” Ruiz said to media. “He has been judged before his time.

“[The media] don’t stop harassing us. We had to leave our house. We want them to leave us alone and for Jenni to tell the truth. It’s not fair.”
