Alexander Zverev experienced a moment he was not expecting in his US Open round of 16 match against Jannik Sinner.

At 2-2 in the fourth set, with the former leading by two sets to one, a spectator shouted “Deutschland uber alles”, which means “Germany above all”.

The meaning of “Deutschland uber alles”

Zverev stopped the match and informed the chair umpire about what he heard.

“He just said the most famous Hitler phrase there is in the world,” Zverev said.

“It’s unacceptable. This is unbelievable.”

The umpire turned to the crowd and immediately identified the fan, who was asked to leave the Arthur Ashe Centre by tournament security. The rest of the crowd booed the individual.
