Deshaun Watson is gearing up for his second season with the Cleveland Browns, but it feels like his first since he was suspended by the NFL for credible sexual misconduct allegations and missed most of last season. Despite the controversy, Watson is ready to lead the team this year and has high aspirations. He stated: “I’m not the same guy. I feel like I’ve improved. I’ve evolved to a new level, and I’m ready to be able to show that.”

The Browns’ season opener against the successful Cincinnati Bengals will be a good marker for where they stand. However, before Watson can be tested by the Bengals’ defense, he has been mocked by NFL fans on social media who took issue with his latest pronouncements.

Browns QB Watson returns from suspension, won’t discuss allegations

Although Watson was referring to his improvement as a player, many NFL fans are disgusted by the credible allegations against him and the lengthy suspension he received. Furthermore, Watson’s fully guaranteed deal due to the threat of allegations has angered some fans, as it is stronger than deals signed by Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers.

Watson’s last season was marred by an 11-game suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct policy, following allegations of sexual assault and misconduct during massage sessions by more than two dozen women. He started the final six games for the Browns last season and sat out the 2021 season after demanding a trade from the Houston Texans.

He says he has learned some things

“Last year was a tricky time where I was learning everything,” Watson said of his first season with the Browns. However, he believes he’s primed for the best season of his career and wants to be better than he was in Houston. “I don’t want to return as the guy at Houston. I want to have that success and start something new in Cleveland,” he added.

Watson’s confidence seems to be shared by his teammates, who voted him as one of the five captains for the upcoming season. “It means a lot. It shows that they believe in me, they trust me,” Watson said of the honor.
