Rob Gronkowski, the former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end, recently revealed that he would only consider returning to the NFL if someone breaks his touchdown record. Gronkowski, who retired in early 2022 with four Super Bowl wins to his name, holds the record for the most touchdowns scored from the position in a single season, with 17 TDs in 2011.

In an interview with Kay Adams on her ‘Up & Adams‘ show, Gronkowski stated: “No. But if someone beats it, I’m coming back to football. That’s the only way I will come back to the NFL is if someone beats my touchdown record. Because that record is mine. You can take the receiving record, you can take as many touchdowns in three games, or two games or a one-game record. That touchdown record by a tight end is my record. I’m proud of it. I love it. And if someone beats it I have to come back and try to reclaim it.”

Gronk’s contributions helped the Patriots reach the Super Bowl in 2011, but they ultimately lost to the New York Giants. Despite rumors of a potential return last season, the 34-year-old has remained retired.

He’s proud of his TD record

Gronkowski‘s statement shows his competitive nature and his desire to maintain his place in NFL history. He takes pride in his touchdown record and is willing to come out of retirement to defend it if necessary. His love for the game is evident in his willingness to return to football if someone surpasses his record.

Overall, Gronkowski’s comments demonstrate his passion for football and his desire to maintain his legacy in the sport. While he may be retired for now, his competitive spirit remains strong, and he is always willing to defend his place in NFL history.
