On Tuesday night, the Dallas Mavericks will play a pre-season game against Real Madrid, Luka Doncic‘s former team.
The Slovenian has fond memories of his time with the Spanish team, who he played for between 2015 and 2018 before being drafted third overall by the Mavericks.

“Without Real Madrid I wouldn’t be where I am now,” he said in a press conference held before the game in the Spanish capital.
“This is where I learned everything, where I was trained.
“Since I left, I told Mark Cuban many times to come back. He listened to me.
“Hopefully one day we will play at the Bernabeu and the NBA will bring us back.
“If one day I return to Europe, I’m sure it would be to go back to Real Madrid.
“I don’t know what the future holds, but if I come back it would be to Real Madrid, that’s 100 percent.”
Luka Doncic is happy to be in Madrid
Discussing the trip and how his teammates are enjoying their time in Spain, Doncic had a positive report.
“Everyone is very happy to be here,” he stated.
“We are still in pre-season, it is a good challenge, as playing against Real Madrid is not going to be easy.
“The reception is going to be very exciting for me, I’ve been waiting for this match for months.”

He also explained why he is confident about the Dallas Mavericks‘ chances in the 2023/24 season.
“I think we have a great team, new pieces,” he said.
“We’re still getting to know each other. I think it’s a better team. Hopefully this season will be special.”
Doncic on the international growth of basketball
On the growth of international basketball, he also wanted to comment on this boom that, of course, has also reached the NBA.
“International basketball is growing, as foreign players have been MVPs and now Victor Wembanyama has arrived,” he said.
“I’m happy that this is happening.”
