As the New York Jets progress through their 2023 season, the buzz surrounding the potential return of injured quarterback Aaron Rodgers is growing louder. Recent reports suggest Rodgers could be eyeing a Christmas Eve comeback, a gift many Jets fans are hopeful for.

WFAN’s renowned radio host, Brandon Tierney, shared some insider information on Tuesday. “I was told that Rodgers is ‘targeting Dec. 24’ for his comeback,” Tierney revealed. If true, this would coincide with the Jets‘ Week 16 match against the Washington Commanders. “That’s the date he’s circled in his mind,” he added, intensifying the speculation.

The nature of Rodgers‘ injury has been the subject of much debate. Initial rumors circulated that the 39-year-old quarterback had sustained a torn Achilles during a game on September 11th, potentially sidelining him for the entire season. However, recent sightings of Rodgers walking unaided and practicing throws at MetLife Stadium have reignited hope among fans and prompted fresh theories about his injury’s severity.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk recently shared insights from medical professionals, suggesting Rodgers might have suffered “a partial tear” rather than a complete rupture. Tierney weighed in on this debate on the X platform (formerly Twitter), confidently stating, “There is no chance Rodgers fully ruptured his Achilles. No chance.”

Experts have attributed Rodgers‘ impressive recovery to the innovative “speed bridge” technique. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, alongside CBS Sports HQ’s injury analyst Marty Jaramillo, have highlighted the procedure’s effectiveness in expediting recovery. Notably, Jaramillo forecasted an even earlier return, suggesting Rodgers might be fit for the Jets’ Week 15 game against the Miami Dolphins on December 17th.

The Jets are remaining quiet on the matter

The team’s leadership, including Rodgers and Jets head coach Robert Saleh, have refrained from providing concrete timelines. However, after the Jets’ recent 20-14 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, Tierney hinted that Rodgers might be further along in his recovery than public statements suggest. “I was told he’s on the treadmill and in the pool every day,” Tierney shared, shedding light on Rodgers’ rehabilitation process.

With the Jets maintaining a 3-3 record entering their Week 7 bye, their upcoming face-off against the New York Giants on October 29th could be pivotal. Fans remain optimistic; as long as the Jets remain playoff contenders, the possibility of Rodgers‘ return this season is still very much alive.
