The Texas Rangers extended their impressive unbeaten streak as visitors to 9 games by defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-1 on Monday night at the Chase Field in Phoenix to retake the lead (2-1) in 2023 World Series.

The DBacks gave up a great opportunity to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 2nd inning when Christian Walker produced a powerful double, immediately after, designated hitter Tommy Pham hit a short fly to right field, and then, Adolis Garcia took the ball immediately and the Arizona first baseman ventured to the plate where he was easily picked off by pitcher Jonah Heim.

The big third inning for the Texas Rangers

That error motivated the visitors who in the top of the third inning showed their offensive power, first with a run-scoring single by second baseman Marcus Semien that brought first baseman Nathaniel Lowe to the plate.

Rookie Brandon Pfaadt’s next changeup pitch was too high, shortstop Corey Seager took advantage and smacked the ball deep in right field for his fifth home run in the World Series.

Arizona’s offense tried to react and in the sixth inning there was a sweet moment for them, when with a single, Ketel Marte reached 19 games in a row with at least one hit, extending what is already the best streak of all time in the Major Leagues, however, this did not serve to shorten the lead that the Rangers still had.

Short opening for Max Scherzer

Max Scherzer had the honor of opening Game 3 for the Rangers, after having done it before in the MLB Postseason against the Astros however, he was only on the mound for three innings because he was retired due to back stiffness, Jon Gray took his place and got the win. Gray managed to pitch for three episodes only giving up one hit and did not allow any runs or hits, retiring three opponents with three strikes.

Pfaadt, who had had a great postseason up to this point, took the L while pitching 5 innings and one third, a period in which he allowed three runs, four hits, struck out four, and gave up two walks.

What’s next for the Rangers and Diamondbacks?

The important Game 4 of this World Series will take place this Tuesday, October 31, also at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona.
