The writing was on the wall forJosh McDaniels with the Las Vegas Raiders for the last few weeks.

An embarrassing Monday night loss to the Detroit Lions in which his hand-picked quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, completed only 10 of 21 passes for 126 yards and an interception was the final nail in the coffin.

In that loss, superstar wide receiver Davante Adams caught one pass. Over the past month, Adams has only gained 142 yards on 14 receptions; numbers that seem unfathomable for a player of his caliber.

Davante Adams thinks McDaniels’ firing was needed

Adams’ lack of production was surely one of many reasons why McDaniels was fired. Especially when considering that Adams had been calling for changes within the team and organization since their Week 6 win against the New England Patriots.

Getting rid of McDaniels is certainly a big change. While speaking to reporters, Adams sure seemed like he believes this is what the Raiders needed.

Obviously, I think it was time one way or the other, it was time for some sort of change. Just to bring a little juice in and revitalize the team a little bit. I think that’s kind of the mindset we have. Just try to have fun and enjoy our time on the field. I think, as we speak to each other, there’s been too much of this has just been feeling like work too much and not having enough fun. Just got to go back to that.

Adams went on to say he appreciated McDaniels and GM David Ziegler for bringing him to the Raiders. But it’s clear McDaniels created a culture within the locker room that didn’t sit well with a lot of players.

By all accounts, the Raiders players were loose and having fun in the locker room on Thursday after practice. It appears the team is revitalized with McDaniels gone.
