In a recent game between the San Antonio Spurs and the Miami Heat, young basketball prospect Victor Wembanyama faced challenges defending against the Heat’s sharpshooter Duncan Robinson.

Robinson executed a throwback move called “The Smitty,” a half-spin hesitation, which proved effective in freezing Wembanyama.

In another instance, Robinson faked Wembanyama and made a crucial 3-point shot. Despite Wembanyama’s struggles in defence, he finished with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists, while Robinson registered 26 points. The Heat ultimately won 118-113, with notable performances from Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler.

Despite the loss, there is a silver lining as the Spurs showed improvement in various aspects of the game. Wembanyama‘s squad displayed efficiency on both ends, boasting a higher field goal percentage (46.2 percent) than the Heat (43.8 percent) and outrebounding them by nine with 50 rebounds.

Keldon Johnson led the scoring with 20 points, and five other Spurs players reached double-digit scoring.

“The effort is there,” coach Gregg Popovich said after the game. “I can see the wheels turning. Nobody likes to lose.”

Paid for their errors

With 17 turnovers in the game, the Spurs faced difficulties maintaining possession, contributing significantly to their defeat. Additionally, they committed 21 fouls, providing the Miami Heat opportunities to score from the free-throw line.

Despite the setback, the errors are attributed to the team’s youthful nature, and it is expected that coach Popovich will work on addressing these issues and minimizing mistakes in future games.
