Josh Giddey got the reception that he may well have expected when taking on the Minnesota Timberwolves given the social media allegations that he had a relationship with an underage girl.

The Oklahoma City Thunder were in action against the Timberwolves at Target Center on Tuesday night and they were narrowly beaten 106-103.

Giddey may remember the treatment from the fans rather than the scoreline in the long run, as every single touch of the ball from him was booed by the watching public.

The 21-year-old is under investigation by the Newport Beach California police department. They opened the investigation “to see if there is any validity to the claims and if any laws were broken,” according to TMZ.

Before Tuesday night’s NBA In-Season Tournament game, Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault was asked about the TMZ report but did not offer any clarity into the situation.

“I’m not gonna comment on anything as it relates to Josh off the court,” he said.

Giddey responds to allegations

Giddey got a much better reception on Saturday at the Paycom Center when the Thunder were playing at home.

On Tuesday though, any misstep from Giddey was loudly cheered, as an interlude from the general booing of his involvement.

He finished the game with 10 points, going 4-for-10 from the field while adding six rebounds.

Giddey did actually speak to reporters during practice on Friday.

“Yeah, I mean, I understand the question, obviously,” Giddey said. “But there’s no further comment right now. … I get the question guys. I completely understand you guys want to know about it. But just for right now, I don’t have anything to say.”
