The soap opera over Shohei Ohtani’s free agency fate continues.

The Japanese star has dominated talk at the MLB Winter Meetings, and there are growing rumors he could be headed to the Los Angeles Dodgers after an alleged revelation from the two-way star.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Ohtani has reportedly told someone close to him in the Angels’ locker room since last season that he liked the idea of going to the Dodgers, while dismissing any desire to move to New York, which would rule out the Yankees and Mets, while the Toronto Blue Jays are also an attractive option.

“Word is finally out that superstar free agent Shohei Ohtani met with at least the Dodgers, Jays and Giants,” a clubhouse source told The Post.

However, it’s not yet known who leads the way among those three finalists, plus the Cubs and Angels, a source told The Post.

“Ohtani told him during the season that he liked the idea of going to at least the Dodgers or Jays if he left the Angels,Heyman wrote.

Of course, everything could change after the meetings, especially if Dodgers manager Dave Roberts’ indiscretion goes for or against him after revealing to The Athletic that he had a meeting with Ohtani and members of the team’s front office.

“Shohei is our priority,” he explained.

Dave Roberts broke the secrecy in the negotiation for Ohtani

Roberts’ confession made it clear that the talk with Ohtani was productive. It could be a positive sign that shows the Dodgers will be chosen by the biggest star that has hit free agency in history.

When it comes to such an important negotiation, the main condition is discretion, something that the Dodgers manager did not respect and that even caused the annoyance of general manager Brandon Gomes, according to journalist Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

Those who know about important negotiations in the Major Leagues say that “silence is golden”, something in which the first example has been given by Ohtani himself, who has gone more than four months without giving interviews.

The same has been done by the Toronto Blue Jays, who despite rumors about Ohtani’s visit to Florida, refused to give an opinion on the matter.

Although they seem to have fewer hopes, so do the San Francisco Giants, who also have the economic power to convince the Japanese, in addition to the attraction of staying in California.
