For Buffalo Bills rookie tight end Dalton Kincaid, his team’s matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs was more than just an important game in the AFC playoff standings.
Worlds collided on Sunday for Kincaid, a huge Taylor Swift fan who plays the same position as her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. He didn’t realize until after the game that he came inches away from meeting Swift, when she arrived solo to Arrowhead Stadium.
Kincaid’s reaction to playing in front of Taylor Swift
After the game, Bills reporter Katherine Fitzgerald said that Kincaid was watching the video of Swift’s arrival in the locker room and showing it to his teammates, in awe of how close she was to him. Fitzgerald was sure to ask Kincaid about playing in front of the mega music star, and she posted his response on X, formerly Twitter.
“I mean I’m sure she’s upset,” Kincaid said. “Maybe we’ll have a song written about the game.”
He’s right that she, or any Chiefs fan, would feel upset. The Chiefs continued recent offensive struggles in the 20-17 loss, which was a huge blow to Kansas City’s chances of earning home games in the AFC playoffs.
The biggest moment of the game was an incredible play from Travis Kelce, who caught a pass from Patrick Mahomes on the Chiefs’ final drive, then tossed a spontaneous lateral to Kadarius Toney as he was getting tackled, allowing the wide receiver to walk into the end zone for what looked like a go-ahead touchdown. However, it was negated due to a penalty on Toney, costing the Chiefs the game and Swift’s beloved Kelce the chance to be the hero.
The twists and turns of the Chiefs season have been dramatic enough that they could spawn a whole album from their most notable fan. Kincaid, who finished with five catches against Kansas City, just hopes to be in the footnotes.
