Bronny James could be drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in an action that would fulfil LeBron James’ dream of playing in the NBA with his son.
It’s something the legendary basketball player has spoken of several times as a goal to achieve before he finally bows out of the sport and into retirement and the Lakers could make it happen, potentially to ensure he remains with them.

“[The New Orleans Pelicans] have the Lakers‘ 2024 first [round pick],” Bobby Marks posted on Twitter, now known as X.com. “But can defer until 2025. If that pick is at 23 or 24, and the Lakers have it, would they take Bronny James to pair up with LeBron?”
Is it worth it?
Several factors have to align to make the dream come true but the key one, as aforementioned, is the Lakers are already limited on their draft picks for a few of the upcoming years and Bronny James is far from a generational talent, so would they “waste” it on him?
He could be selected in the 2024 NBA Draft if his college career at the USC Trojans goes very well after he recently made his debut after suffering a cardiac arrest in August but it might not happen for several years yet.
“He’s a very good defender,” an NBA scout said to The Messenger. “Strong, athletic, good ball-mover, some potential as a shooter.
“Limited ability to create his own shot. I don’t see him as a lottery pick or maybe even a first-rounder.”
LeBron’s contract
LeBron James‘ contract expires at the conclusion of the 2025 season, when he will become an unrestricted free agent into his 40s.
With the dream of playing with his son very much on the cards could a team draft Bronny simply to secure the services of the legendary power forward, whilst giving themselves a stronger hand to pay him less?
The Lakers may even view this as a viable option so that they can free up some salary money to seek his replacement out, or another star as they bid for their first NBA Championship since 2020.
