Jake Paul is well on his way to gain the respect of the ‘real’ boxing world. The Youtuber-turned-boxer was up against what was considered the most challenging fight of his career, against (formerly) 10-1-1 boxer Andre August. The fight lasted exactly two minutes and 32 seconds, when Paul pelted August with an uppercut for an immediate KO win.
Paul was considered a favorite tonight, but many, including broadcaster Ariel Helwani, considered this a fight with “little to win, and everything to lose”. Luckily for Jake Paul, the victory came swiftly. Despite not earning a big payday, with the ‘Problem Child’ breaking even (according to him), the moral victory and motivational boost will be considerable for him
Jake Paul remains “committed” on becoming world champions
Paul now sits at an 8-1 overall record, and on track to complete his mission of “becoming a world champion”. The crowd at Orlando’s Caribe Royale Resort got to experience a very short show on Friday night, but nevertheless went wild watching the quick KO win.
When asked before the fight if he was motivated, Paul said “no, motivation is temporary, committment is permanent”. After waving bye to his opponent as he laid on the mat, the ‘Problem Child’ celebrated with his family by dancing to ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree’.
After the fight, when asked what’s next, the 8-1 boxer said he’ll accept money fights if people ‘bring the smoke’ but it simply focused on creating “one of the best sports stories ever told” by winning a pro boxing championship.
