The New England Patriots‘ disappointing season hit a new low as they fell to a 27-17 defeat against the Kansas City Chiefs, bringing their record to 3-11.
This marks a significant departure from the team’s usual success, as they are on track to finish with fewer than seven wins for the first time since the 2000 NFL season when they had with a 5-11 record.
The Patriots are now facing the prospect of consecutive losing seasons for the first time in 30 years, signaling a need for change.
Belichick’s job at risk
Reports have surfaced indicating that Patriots owner Robert Kraft is seriously considering parting ways with the legendary head coach, Bill Belichick.
The six-time Super Bowl-winning coach’s tenure in New England is rumored to depart at the end of the 2023 season. When asked about the potential departure of Belichick, Travis Kelce responded with a cryptic statement, leaving fans and analysts speculating about the coach’s future.
“The fact you just said that, I mean yeah, that’s wild to even think about,” Kelce noted.
“But I got a feeling that guy has some football left in him.”
The Patriots‘ cautious approach suggests that any decision about Belichick‘s future will be well-considered and not rushed.
If the team experiences further setbacks akin to the recent loss, Kraft may lean toward making a significant change.
