Images of text messages surfaced, revealing a conversation between Edwards and model Paige Jordae, who posted the exchanges on her Instagram page.
Edwards: All women should be empowered
In his statement released on X, Edwards addressed the allegations, acknowledging that the comments were made in the “heat of the moment” and do not align with his personal beliefs.
He emphasized the importance of women being empowered to make decisions about their bodies, expressing a commitment to handling his personal matters privately.
Edwards’ full message read: “I made comments in the heat of a moment that are not me, and that are not aligned with what I believe and who I want to be as a man. All women should be empowered to make their own decisions about their bodies and what is best for them. I am handling my personal matters privately and will not be commenting on them any further at this time.”
The alleged texts depict Jordae sharing a picture of a pregnancy test, with the other party, purportedly Edwards, instructing her to undergo an abortion and offering financial assistance.
Subsequently, Jordae posted an Instagram story displaying a receipt for an incoming wire transfer of $100,000.
Scandal could distract from Timberwolves’ season
The timing of these allegations coincides with the Timberwolves’ remarkable start to the NBA season, boasting a 19-5 record and leading the Western Conference.
Edwards has been a pivotal player, averaging 24.2 points and 5.1 assists per game.
As the controversy unfolds, the Timberwolves have not issued a statement, maintaining silence on the situation leading up to their game against the Miami Heat on Monday night.
Edwards, listed as questionable on the injury report with a right hip pointer, faces both on-court and off-court challenges.
Adding complexity to the situation, Edwards’ current girlfriend, Jeanine Robles, announced her pregnancy on Instagram last week.
