Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr blasted “the free-throw shooting parade” that the NBA turned into on Monday. The criticism came after his team lost to the Denver Nuggets‘ Nikola Jokic, who went to the line 18 times and made all 18 shots.
“I have no problem with referees as such. We have really good referees in the league,” Kerr said at a press conference.

“I have a problem with the way we’re ‘legislating’ defense by leaving it out of the sport. That’s what we’re doing in the NBA. The way we teach referees, we’re just allowing players to make up their way to the personnel line. If I was a fan, I wouldn’t want to have watched the second half of the game. It was disgusting.”
Kerr insisted that the players simply take advantage of the situation presented to them around how they can force fouls.

“It was just getting the refs to take the bait (in the Nuggets-Warriors), but the refs have to call those fouls because that’s how they’ve been taught (…). And the players are really smart in this league. In the last decade or so, they’ve gotten smarter and smarter (…) and they’re taking full advantage of it. It’s a parade to the free throw line and it’s disgusting to watch,” he maintained.
After five straight wins, the Warriors fell 120-114 to the Nuggets who, after this special NBA Christmas Day, have now won five straight.
