Bad news for all San Antonio Spurs fans as rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama is set to miss back-to-backs for at least a couple of weeks. The young star will remain on a minutes restriction as the team tries to be cautious with his recent ankle injury. Unfortunately for Wemby, he picked up an ankle sprain after he stepped on a ball boy during a warm up for the San Antonio Spurs. It all happened before the Spurs faced the Dallas Mavericks as coach Gregg Popovich decided to sit him on the bench that night and waited for the CT scan to come back. Although there is no serious damage to the ankle, Wembanyama still needs some time to recover from the sprain.

Wemby tried to play last Tuesday
After that injury, Wembanyama attempted to return last Tuesday night against the Portland Trail Blazers. In the end, the Spurs lost 134-128 and listed Wemby out of action in order to prevent any more damage to his ankle. According to Popovich, Wembanyama was listed as absent by a Spurs’ medical staff mandate. This is what coach Pop said: “He’s got a minutes restriction and he can’t play back-to-backs for a couple of weeks until they take another picture and check out his foot again.”
As a result of this, the San Antonio Spurs won’t likely have Victor for the upcoming back-to-backs they are having over the next month. Although Wemby will only miss two weeks of that. San Antonio plays Charlotte and Chicago on January 12-13. They also play at home against Portland and Minnesota on January 26-27.However, it is expected that Wemby will only miss the first two of those games. Last Thursday, Victor had 30 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 blocks in 24 minutes against the Blazers. Progression on his recovery will dictate the frequency with which he will play.
