Inter Miami‘s Facundo Farias is expected to miss the 2024 Major League Soccer season after suffering an ACL injury during the team’s preseason match against El Salvador on Friday.

Farias entered the game as a second-half substitute, hoping to break the 0-0 deadlock before falling late on. The player is expected to undergo surgery in the coming weeks, keeping off the pitch for the foreseeable future.

The Argentine figure joined Miami last July from Atletico Colon, signing a Under 22 Initiative deal with the Herons. He’s managed three goals and two assists in 13 appearances across all competitions since arriving, forming an integral part in the roster that lifted the 2023 Leagues Cup trophy.

Though Farias played a crucial role under head coach Gerardo Martino, the team can now expect new signing Luis Suarez to absorb his responsibilities quite well. The team should have no problem moving forward with the offensive comprising Suarez, Lionel Messi and Leonardo Campana with Sergio Busquets and Benjamin Cremaschi providing support in the midfield.

After the draw against El Salvador, Miami travels to Texas to take on FC Dallas before jetting off to compete against Al Hilal and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr.
