The Cincinnati Bengals released running back Joe Mixon on Monday after he spent seven seasons with the team and was just 46 yards shy of becoming the the second all-time rushing leader in franchise history. To make matters worse, they already signed his replacement.

Bengals agreed on a two-year deal with running back Zack Moss, who started for the Indianapolis Colts most of last season while Jonathan Taylor recovered from injury.

Mixon, 27, is just one year older than Moss, who ended last season with 794 yards rushing and five touchdowns, dropping in usage upon Taylor’s return to the field late in the year.

Moss is reportedly getting a two-year, $8 million deal. Last season, Mixon led Cincinnati with 1,034 yards rushing and nine touchdowns. In fact, he was always the leading rusher each of his seven years.

Bengals falling apart

With Mixon gone, wide receoiver Tee Higgins is likely next out the door, leaving the Bengals in shambles ahead of the upcoming season.

Higgins, 25, requested a trade on Monday after the Bengals franchise tagged him to have money available for when Ja’Marr Chase comes knocking asking for his bag.

Joe Burrow will need to remain healthy for Cincy to have any sort of hope next year, but losing Mixon and Higgins should worry any Bengals fan.
