Planning Minister John Carey has made the extraordinary move to intervene in a planning dispute surrounding the safe night space for women between community services provider Ruah and the City of Perth.

Ruah had received planning approval to operate its safe night space for women at its James Street facility in Northbridge, but the City of Perth placed a number of conditions on it that Ruah said made the facility unworkable.

Ruah was fighting the conditions in the State Administrative Tribunal.

A directions notice was issued to the Tribunal president on Friday to refer an application for review for ministerial determination, meaning ultimate approval would now rest with the state government.
