Drivers in Halifax were left “gobsmacked” on Saturday (March 23) as a car drove through the town with a large tree hanging out of its boot.

The car was filmed driving along Winding Road in Halifax , in the direction of Siddal, with a large tree hanging out of the boot, completely obscuring the back of the car.

In the video, taken at around 11am on Saturday morning, the passenger and driver of the vehicle behind can be heard laughing in shock at the car’s interesting load. The car continued to drive along with its boot open, with the indicator and brake lights only just visible.

Kelly Magee, who posted the video on social media with the caption “Only in Halifax”, said: “The car pulled in front of us from the mini roundabout just before Eureka. We just couldn’t believe our eyes to be honest. Everyone that passed the car on the other side of the road was also gobsmacked and laughing at the car.”

The video received plenty of reaction from locals online, who were quick to share their amazement at the car’s load – and question whether what they were doing was legal or not. One person commented: “Good on them for not fly tipping – at least it looks like they’re on their way to the tip.”

Another said: “Are they having a quick sweep of the potholes in preparation for filling in?”, a third added: “That’s definitely not legal so it’s lucky there wasn’t a police car behind them…funny though!”

While someone else said: “Certainly illegal.”
