A horror crash involving a B-double truck has left a motorcyclist dead and the Snowy Mountains Highway closed in both directions in the latest tragedy on NSW roads over the Easter long weekend.

The driver of the truck has been taken to Cooma Hospital for mandatory testing following the crash about 90 kilometres north of Cooma.

Emergency services arrived on the scene around 11am on Saturday to find the motorbike rider had already died. He is yet to be formally identified.

The highway is closed in both directions and police expect it to remain so for several hours while they investigate and clear the wreckage.

Transport authorities are asking motorists to avoid the area and use an alternative route.

The crash is the latest tragedy to occur on NSW roads over the long weekend.

An ATV driver died in the state’s Riverina on Friday night after swerving to avoid a kangaroo – causing the vehicle to flip. Witnesses and police performed CPR but could not resuscitate the 54-year-old man.

Earlier on Friday, police issued a road safety warning after the death of a 20-year-old man in Kensington and an 80-year-old in a crash at Campbelltown.

Assistant commissioner Brett McFadden said NSW Police would be highly visible over the Easter long weekend and their enhanced operations had already detected 815 speeding offences, 28 alcohol offences and 116 drivers on illicit drugs.
