Sadly for Souths, we’ve seen this too many times this year. Lazy players not doing everything they can and the team looking way more tired than their opponents. Dylan Edwards just exposed them badly after fielding a kick in his own in-goal area. Taylan May scores after Edwards does all the hard, and smart, work. Penrith lead 30-12 after 65 minutes.

It’s not great for Souths. Initial reports are a high ankle sprain for Jye Gray, while Dean Hawkins was overheard to say he heard a pop when he injured his leg. A “pop” in the leg can’t be a good thing. Penrith lead 18-12 after 54 minutes

Forget about Beverly Hills 90210’s Dylan McKay – Dylan Edwards is the coolest Dylan. The way he fooled the Souths chase team and got back into the field of play just then was really something. Dylan McKay had a lot better – and more – hair, but Panthers fans are happy with their man.

Remember when Damien Cook was moved to the centres in Origin – well we may have just trumped that. After Jye Gray succumbed to an ankle injury at half-time, Cook has moved to fullback. This is a new one for me. Souths are now without their starting halfback and fullback. A hard task just keeps getting tougher.

Wayne Bennett may not be South Sydney coach – yet – but he’s already having some input. Interim coach Ben Hornby, who has a close relationship with Bennett from their time at the Dragons, revealed before the game he’d sought advice from the super coach before facing the Panthers.

“I spoke to Wayne earlier in the week,” Hornby told Nine. “He’s given me some advice and I will take that, but he’s already trying to steal my job so I can’t talk to him too much now.”

The 12-0 lead South Sydney once had now seems an eon ago. Penrith have scored the last three tries – the most recent of which came courtesy of back-rower Luke Garner. Penrith lead 18-12 after 32 minutes
