A homemade sign apparently placed on the windscreen of a parked car in Sheffield has prompted an angry reaction against ‘parking police’.

The 94-word rant appeared on a car parked on a side street in the S11 postcode area and appears to be aimed at commuters who use side streets to park for free and then walk to work.

It begins: “I’m a selfish commuter who comes and parks badly on your street taking up too much room because I can’t park!

“I come each day and park here then walk to work elsewhere probably because I’m too cheap to pay for parking or be sensible and more environmentally conscious and to take the bus.”

The note concludes “…I’m a single commuter in a car and I don’t care that you now can’t park on your own road.”

One person suggested the car was owned by someone who lives on the road in question.

Some people shared the frustration felt by the poster, with one writing: “It is jarring when someone who doesn’t live on the road parks in front of your gaff.”

One man said: “Someone thinks they are the parking police.”
