The 2024 NFL season opener is going to see the Kansas City Chiefs host the Baltimore Ravens in what promises to be a massive occasion

The Chiefs are attempting to win the Super Bowl for the third consecutive season and the first team that will have a chance to try and stop them are the Ravens, who will be led by Lamar Jackson.

The NFL announced the news on Monday and the game will be played on Thursday, September 5. It is going to be a rematch of last season’s AFC Championship Game which the Chiefs won 17-10.

They then defeated the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl LVIII.

Another Kickoff game for the Chiefs

The NFL Kickoff game was first introduced in the 2002 season and the Chiefs have got a 2-1 record in it. They were beaten in last year’s opener 21-20 by the Detroit Lions, so it shows losing the Kickoff game does not mean that the season is doomed.

The Ravens have only played a Kickoff game once before and they were beaten by the Denver Broncos to start the 2013 season.

Fans will have to wait until Wednesday for the NFL to release the entire schedule for the new season, but there is already something to look forward to.

Lamar Jackson will have to take on Patrick Mahomes, someone he admitted earlier in the year that he does not like facing.

“I don’t like competing against him at all,” Jackson said of Mahomes, via The Athletic in January. “He’s definitely a great QB. Definitely a Hall of Famer. That’s a no brainer.”
