Trouble is brewing for the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. Kicker Harrison Butker became the black sheep of the NFL overnight after his bigoted speech at Benedictine College . All eyes were on Chiefs leader Patrick Mahomes to take a stance, until this viral interview clip laid his feelings bare.

Patrick Mahomes speaks on Harrison Butker

The National Football League has already taken its stance on Butker, condemning the sexist and anti-LGBTQ remarks he made in his commencement address. Mahomes has not done the same, but the old interview clip gave a strong indication that he made his mind up about Butker a long time ago.

Mahomes’ comments came from an interview on the Pat McAfee Show a couple months ago after the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory, in which Butker played a huge role. He discussed his relationship with the kicker, which was virtually non-existent.

“I don’t talk to Harrison all year long. I just let him do his thing,” Mahomes revealed to McAfee. “We sit right beside each other in team meetings and I don’t say one word to him.”

The quarterback’s limited interactions with the now-ostracized kicker were a sigh of relief for Kansas City fans and Swifties alike. However, the NFL may still be looking for an updated stance on the contents of Butler’s speech from the face of their league and the Chiefs franchise, since the video is from long before.

What did Harrison Butker say in his commencement speech?

During his address, Butker expressed his reputation for speaking his mind and proceeded to attack what he referred to as “dangerous gender ideologies” and criticized President Joe Biden’s policies and leadership. He also made strong statements about sensitive topics such as abortion, IVF, surrogacy, euthanasia, and cultural values, attributing them to what he described as a “pervasiveness of disorder.”

Furthermore, Butker directed his attention to the women in the graduating class, advising them that their “most important title” should be “homemaker.” These remarks drew widespread criticism and raised concerns about the impact of his words on the audience and the broader community.

“Harrison Butker gave a speech in his personal capacity. His views are not those of the NFL as an organization. The NFL is steadfast in our commitment to inclusion, which only makes our league stronger,” said Jonathan Beane, the NFL’s senior vice president and chief diversity and inclusion officer.
