Man wanted by police over fatal Uber crash hands himself in

A man has been arrested over a crash in Brisbane’s south-west that killed a passenger in an Uber, almost a week after the alleged hit-and-run.

Police will allege a Ford Mondeo and an Uber, a Toyota Camry, crashed in Brisbane’s south-western suburb of Wacol in the early hours of last Tuesday, killing passenger Ryan Grafton, 30.

Grafton’s fellow passenger in the Uber, Amelia Vinden, 26, was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition, while the 42-year-old Uber driver Hussein Ali Mohamed suffered suspected back injuries.

The crash also closed Boundary Road for several hours, and caused heavy traffic in the area near the Centenary Highway.

The driver of the Ford fled the scene, police said at the time. After days of searching, police released an image of Kai Fursey, a 28-year-old from Goodna, who was wanted over the crash.

He handed himself in to Acacia Ridge police on Monday evening, and was later arrested without incident.

Grafton was last week remembered by his sister, Lauren Bennett, as a “kind uncle”.

“He was a kind, big-hearted person, who loved his family,” she told Nine News.
