The family of a young man killed in a car crash in Rotherham have spoken out for the first time since his death.

Mackenzie Ball, 20, was died at the scene of the crash in Morthen Road, Wickersley, at the junction with Moat Lane. He was a passenger in a silver Land Rover Discovery which was involved in a crash with a silver Subaru Forester.

Today, South Yorkshire Police announced they were treating his death as murder. Now, the family of Mackenzie, who is also known as Mac, have paid moving tribute to him.

In a statement they said: “Our family are absolutely devastated at the loss of our son Mac. He has been taken from us too soon. If anyone has any information about the incident, we ask that they contact the police.

“We ask that we may be given some privacy in which to grieve at this time.”

Police say the driver and three passengers in the Subaru fled the scene on foot. A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has since been released on police bail.
