A body has been discovered during the search for missing TV doctor Michael Mosley, who disappeared near a hiking trail on the picturesque Greek island of Symi.

Earlier this week, drones were utilised as part of the search and rescue mission on one of Greece’s Dodecanese Islands. Mosley, recognised for his appearances on The One Show and This Morning, as well as his documentary work, was holidaying with his wife Clare at the time.

The search subsequently shifted to a network of caves known locally as The Abyss, where it is believed a body was found by search staff on Sunday morning nearby, reportedly with an umbrella. Formal identification of the remains has yet to take place.

Local police released a statement, translated from Greek, stating they were informed about the “disappearance of the 67-year-old British national on the island” on Wednesday. An “investigation” was launched to locate him, with the search being “carried out by the Fire Brigade with the assistance of forces of the Hellenic Police, Civil Protection (a local and regional coordination agency), volunteers and a police dog, while technical means such as drones are also used to locate the missing person”.

Fire services reported that they were requested by officers on Thursday at around 11.15am to assist in the search. Six firefighters, a vehicle and a drone team were dispatched from the nearby island of Rhodes to assist, arriving in Symi at approximately 2pm, reports the Mirror.

In addition to his adventurous pursuits, Mosley is a columnist for the Daily Mail and has produced numerous films focusing on diet and exercise. He is known for hosting the Channel 4 programme Michael Mosley: Who Made Britain Fat? and participating in the BBC series Trust Me, I’m A Doctor.
