Dwayne Johnson and his Seven Bucks Productions, co-founded by Dany Garcia, have signed a first-look deal with The Walt Disney Company.

The agreement will see Johnson and Garcia develop films for theatrical and streaming platforms, with Johnson to potentially star in the projects. The multi-year deal will also allow Seven Bucks to collaborate across Disney divisions.

Johnson and Disney have worked together before, including on the 2021 theme park ride-inspired Jungle Cruise that also starred Emily Blunt, and two seasons of Behind the Attraction for Disney+. This November, Johnson will return in the voice role of the grandiose demigod Maui in Moana 2, Walt Disney Animation’s sequel.

The latest trailer for Moana 2 broke records for Disney animation as it earned 178 million views in just 24 hours. Moana is a cornerstone movie for Disney, as the 2016 feature – which grossed more than $687 million at the worldwide box office — has been among top of the most streamed films in the U.S. for several years.

Disney and Johnson are also behind the live action Moana remake from director Thomas Kail set to open in theaters on July 10, 2026. Although he directed the filmed staged production of Hamilton for Disney+ in 2020, Moana will act as Kail’s feature narrative directorial debut. Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia are producing via Seven Bucks.

Disney’s ESPN is also a broadcast partner for the UFL, the pro football league owned in part by Johnson, Garcia, and Gerry Cardinale’s RedBird Capital Partners.

Variety first reported the news.
