Chris McDermott was tonight’s first inductee at the Hall of Fame.
He’s being quizzed in stage by Gerard Whately.
And we’re all reminded of the time Templeton booted 15.9 one day!
He’s also reflecting on his Brownlow win in 1980. Templeton cheekily let slip that he knew beforehand that he would be the winner.
“I was told beforehand, I know it doesn’t happen these days,” Templeton said. “I had to feign looking very surprised [when I won].”
It’s a big night for the former Footscray and Melbourne player.
It’s Kelvin Templeton!
And we go back more than 100 years ….
It’s English-born Ralph Robertson.
“He played 14 games for St Kilda around the turn of the 20th century before he moved to Sydney for work and became a founding father of the Indigenous game there, appearing 40 times for NSW.
“Who knows how many more it might have been if the warplane he was piloting hadn’t collided with another on his side in Egypt in 1917, killing him at 34.
“Robertson played in only one win for St Kilda, but it was the Saints’ first win in the VFL and their only win in the first four years of the competition.”
With Chris McDermott getting his HOF spot, remember this ??? Or not ???
Chris McDermott is on the stage, reflecting on his induction and his great relationship with Stephen Kernahan, another SA footy great.
He gives a good, chatty speech. He’s savouring the moment, and good on him.
“I am humbled, I am honoured … I will treat it with the respect it deserves,” McDermott said.
“I never ever dreamed that this day would happen
He then thanks in family, in great detail.
