Los Angeles Sparks rookie center Cameron Brink suffered a devastating blow with a torn ACL in her left knee, as announced by the team on Wednesday. The injury occurred during Tuesday night’s game against the Connecticut Sun, prompting further evaluation the following day.

The incident took place in the first quarter while Brink was driving to the basket. Her knee buckled, leading to a painful fall that required assistance from her teammates to get back on her feet. Ultimately, she had to be carried off the floor by trainers.

This setback is not only disheartening for Brink and the Sparks but also for the WNBA and the upcoming Olympics. Brink, who was the No. 2 pick in the draft out of Stanford, has quickly emerged as one of the league’s brightest young stars.

In just 15 games, she has showcased her talent by averaging 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 2.3 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game. Her impact on and off the court has made her one of the most visible players in the league.

Cameron’s Olympic dreams dashed

“Obviously, this is a tough break for Cameron and for our team,” said Sparks head coach Derek Fisher. “She has been a key contributor for us, and her absence will be felt on both ends of the court. We will support her throughout her recovery and look forward to her return next season.”

Brink’s injury is not only a blow to the Sparks but also to Team USA’s 3×3 basketball team for the upcoming Paris Olympics. She was recently selected as a member of the team, highlighting her potential on the international stage.

“We are deeply saddened by Cameron’s injury and wish her a speedy recovery,” remarked Team USA’s 3×3 coach. “Her presence on the court will be missed, but we know she will come back stronger and continue to represent her country with pride.”

As Brink begins her road to recovery, the Sparks and her fans will undoubtedly miss her presence on the court. However, with her determination and talent, there is no doubt that she will come back stronger and continue to make an impact in the WNBA and on the international stage.
