Republican representative Chris Christie has sent Twitter reeling with memes after calling former President Trump “Donald Duck” during the recent GOP debate.

Former New Jersey governor Chris Christie was not holding back when it came to attacking Donald Trump during the latest GOP presidential debate. The former president was absent at the Southern California event that took place on Wednesday, September 27. However, it was his ‘Donald Duck’ comment about Trump that became the butt of the most hilarious memes on Twitter.

What did Chris Christie say about Trump?

Christie’s comments about Trump have given social media users a new topic to joke or make memes about. The Republican Presidential hopeful called out Trump for not attending the debate and claimed that the former President is “afraid of being on the stage.”

“And you’re not here tonight—not because of polls, and not because of your indictments. You’re not here tonight, because you’re afraid of being on the stage and defending your record,” Christie said. He claimed that Trump was “ducking” these events.

“You’re ducking these things…You keep doing that, no one up here is going to call you Donald Trump anymore, we’re going to call you Donald Duck,” he said. The former 45th President responded to Christie’s comments with his own but this did not stop from Twitter going into a meme frenzy.

Donald Duck memes flood Twitter amid Trump comparison

Most Twitter users joked about Chris Christie’s strange comparison. However, a few others took it a step further and made hilarious edited images showing Donald Duck in Trump’s avatar.

Donald Trump hits back at Christie

Trump was in no mood to take any slander from Christie. He quickly slammed the former governor over his jibes.

In his Truth Social post, the 77-year-old called Christie a “bum.” The former President wrote some scathing words to get back at Christie saying, “Chris Christie is talking about the job he did as Governor. He had a 9% approval rating. N.J. wanted to throw the “bum” out,” he said on Truth Social.

However, a 2017 report on Politico states that Christie’s approval rating was 15 percent. The former governor had the lowest approval rating of any governor of New Jersey in the past two decades.

Following his online rant, Trump also gave an interview with Fox News Digital saying, “Anybody that would come up with that nickname shouldn’t be running for president.”
