Inter Miamiwill face Toronto FC on Wednesday evening and it is set to be the match that will mark the return of Lionel Messi to his team.

After his absence, due to his participation with Argentina and a subsequent injury to his right hamstring, he returns to Gerardo Martino‘s team after missing two MLS games.

The MLS side’s coach reported that both Messi and Jordi Alba would be present at the team’s training sessions, but it is not yet known whether they will start or come on as substitutes tonight. However, Messi is sure to play a few minutes.

Messi’s absence

Messi has not played in MLS since September 4. The first game he missed was Inter Miami-Kansas City (3-1) and the second was Atlanta United-Inter Miami, in which they lost 5-2.

Inter Miami are seven points behind DC United in the playoffs, although DC United have two games in hand, but Messi‘s return will give them impetus in the playoff hunt.

Messi‘s arrival helped his team to the Leagues Cup trophy but they really need points in MLS and his absence has been felt.

The feeling is that should the Argentine carry his Leagues Cup form into the remaining MLS fixtures, Inter Miami should be able to secure a much more respectable final league position.
