When the fierce rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool is reignited, it is bound to bring excitement.

From the start, it was clear this fixture was to be no different.

Neither side wasted any time to fire a shot on target, with Alejandro Garnacho running onto Bruno Fernandes’ ball to blast a shot into the back of the net. The flag was raised for offside, but it certainly set the tone for the sort of dogfight this match would be.

It wasn’t long until Liverpool actually bagged a goal, and deservedly so. A corner swung in by Dominik Szoboszlai reached Luis Diaz, who had plenty of time and space to whip it into the net.

Then the goalscorer went down after colliding with Willy Kambwala. Fans were quick to share their thoughts on this, especially after Casemiro kicked the ball out of play and received a thumbs up from Jurgen Klopp…not good.

United will have been pleased to hear the whistle at half time, and it was clear fans were demanding more from the home side heading into the second 45.

Just five minutes into the second half, and massively against the run of play, Bruno Fernandes dragged his team into the game. If you were still queuing for a half time drink at Old Trafford, then you’ll have missed his unbelievable effort which nestled in the back of the net.

The Theatre of Dreams truly came alive after the equaliser, with end-to-end football on the cards for the rest of the game. However, Jurgen Klopp did look like he was transitioning into his villain era on the sidelines.

It didn’t take long for starboy Kobbie Mainoo to put United ahead with an absolutely beauty of a goal. His first ever goal at Old Trafford – what a moment.

Arsenal and Manchester City fans also joined in on the hype. United had a lot of support online.

An unnecessary foul from Aaron Wan-Bissaka then shifted the game once more, as in the final 10 minutes Liverpool were gifted a penalty, which they took full advantage of.

Mohamed Salah stepped up to take it, and shortly after the scoreline stood at 2-2.

Seven minutes of stoppage time was added on to the game, with both sides level at 90 minutes.

Yet, no further goals could be scored and Liverpool were forced to settle below Arsenal in the Premier League.
