Best wigs, hair bundles and wig caps for your new look

Wigs have not only become a life saver for many women but an exciting way to switch up your look without committing to any major changes to your natural hair.

Many black women wear them not only to protect their own hair, which is usually braided into cornrows underneath, but for the freedom to experiment with different styles and textures. And with the wig industry evolving faster than ever, the quality of hair and the range of styles on offer has never been more vast.

While it may seem a little intimidating for newbies, wearing a wig is actually super easy and incredibly convenient. In fact, you can kiss goodbye to bad hair days altogether as long as you get the right wig for you.

If you’re worried about how natural it’ll look (because let’s face it, that’s everyone’s number one concern when they hear the word ‘wig’), don’t be – that’s what lace frontals and closures are for. Most salons offer custom-made wigs, taking everything from your individual head size and face shape into consideration before magically whizzing up your dream look. But first, you have to shop for hair bundles – this is where you select the texture, style, length and colour of your hair.

Here, we’ve listed some of the best hair bundles to try when creating your next wig, as well as our favourite ready-to-wear wigs and of course, those all important wig caps to make sure your natural hair is safely tucked away.

Hair Bundles

HD Lace & Bundle Package

Bleu Ribbon is a London-based luxury hair vendor and salon, selling hair extensions, bundles and wigs in a variety of styles and colours. Their HD Lace and Bundle Package makes shopping for hair for a new wig super easy as you can purchase everything you need in one go. That includes three bundles and a closure of your choice for one set price. In terms of quality, all the hair is 100 per cent human and you can pick between Brazilian, Peruvian or Malaysian, with length varying from 12 to 30 inches. Oh, and did we mention Bleu Ribbon is an influencer hub? Patricia Bright is one of their most loyal customers.

Bundle Deal With HD Closure

Peckham-based salon The Traphouse Salon is another firm favourite among influencers and celebrities thanks to their wide range of styles when it comes to hair. Not only do they install and style your wig (or any other Afro hairstyle you’d like for that matter) but they sell hair bundles via their hair and beauty business Flavours by The Traphouse. Here you can make the most of their various bundle deals, including the bundle deal with HD closure which comes complete with three bundles and one closure of your choice. Pick your length (between 14 to 28 inches) and texture, which includes straight, body waves, deep waves and loose waves, and you’re good to go.

The TAYLOR Unit – Glueless Full Lace Wig, Island Wave

With clients including Naomi Campbell and Serena Williams, Kensington-based salon A List Lace Hair has a very fitting name. Even more fitting though is their selection of lace front wigs, all available in different colours, lengths and textures. For glamorous waves with extra volume, opt for The Taylor Unit wig. The YeMaia Wig

Award-winning wig designer Gina Knight’s self-titled salon specialises in creating textured wigs for hair replacement. The aim is for the wigs, made for black women especially, to look as natural as possible with afro textures with 100 per cent human hair. Wig Caps

The Wig Fix

A firm favourite of Cardi B and Kylie Jenner’s hair stylist Tokyo Stylez, the wig fix has been praised for being a non-itchy, secure cap that keeps your wig in place, even on a hot summer’s day. Founded by 25-year-old black entrepreneur, Aasiyah Abdulsalam, it is suitable for all full, glueless wigs. It is also medically approved and has been designed not to put pressure on the hairline, protect the scalp and promote hair growth. Talk about the perfect wig cap!

FANDAMEI Wig Caps

A purse-friendly favourite on the Amazon Bestseller List, the FANDAMEI wig caps are available in different shades including dark brown, a more pale nude and black. Made with stretchy nylon material, the lightweight stocking caps are thin making it easy and comfortable to place your hair inside.

Dreamlover Stocking Wig Caps Beige, 10 Pack

If this isn’t a great deal, we don’t know what is. Amazon is selling 10 wig caps for just £5 and judging by the thousands of reviews, the bargain price doesn’t mean they fall short in quality. Designed as stockings for customers to make wig caps, especially for lace front wigs, they come in a beige colour and are stretchy enough to tuck away both long and short hair. The nylon material also means they’re great for those with a sensitive scalp and the fit is comfy too.

£4.99 | Amazon

Verdict:

While all the salons and styles are influencer and celebrity approved, we recommend opting for the ‘Audrey’ wig by the Traphouse Salon for your first wig. Not only is a chic, timeless look – making it a great investment – but buying a straight wig is always a good idea as you can style it with waves or curls at home whenever you like. If you’re creating a custom-made wig, the Bleu Ribbon’s HD Lace & Bundle Package is a great deal on quality hair. But whatever you go for, make sure you get ‘The Wig Fix’ cap for ultimate comfort and security.
