He wasn’t able to Take The A Train!
New York City mayoral candidate Andrew Yang was ridiculed on Twitter by those in the know as he suggested in a posting that he was going to take the famed A train subway line up to New York City’s northernmost borough.
‘On the A train Bronx bound’ Yang tweeted on Monday.
But social media can be unforgiving, particularly when anyone with subway map is able to see the A train hits the buffers at 207th Street at Inwood in Manhattan.
New York City mayoral candidate Andrew Yang tweeted on Monday that he was ‘On the A train Bronx bound’
Yang continued to tweet about his subway journey on the A Express train – but he would have had to change in order to reach The Bronx
Although the A line is the longest subway route in the city stretching from the beaches of Far Rockaway in Queens, it comes to a halt just before the Bronx, as several on Twitter were very quick to point out.
‘Dude, There is no such thing as a Bronx bound A train. Can somebody please teach this man about this City before he does serious damage?’ tweeted Kas Stolzman, a lawyer from New York.
‘I’ll be curious to hear what Mr. Yang learns about the Bronx after his A train ride,’ tweeted former journalist Clyde Haberman. ‘Whenever I took that train — I lived as a boy at its northern terminus — it never went to the Bronx. Still doesn’t.’
Twitter users were quick to seize on Yang’s transportation faux pax
‘The A train doesn’t go to the Bronx. Unless it’s a magic train,’ another tweeter joked.
‘If you wanna get elected in New York, you’d better know how to speak New York. ‘I’m goin up to the Bronx, switching to the D at 125th.’ Nobody says ‘Bronx bound’. This isn’t a Pixar movie,’ tweeted user CrazyJo.
Yang seemed to be enjoying his subway ride and tweeted out his thoughts during a 66-block non-stop stretch without any stations.
Some Twitter users were quick to generate memes of the mayoral candidate including this one showing Yang as The Joker as he walks down a flight of steps in The Bronx

But there were also plenty of people who also sprung to Yang’s defense
‘love going express from 59th to 125th’, he added.
A campaign spokesman for Yang confirmed that the candidate switched trains to complete his journey but refused to comment on whether he knew the A train did not travel to the Bronx.
Yang later issued a photo of himself eating beef patties with Democratic Bronx Councilwoman Vanessa Gibson as he toured the Highbridge and Concourse areas of the borough.
Yang has lived in New York City for 25 years returning when he started law school at Columbia University, but he should probably be more familiar with the subway line given that he lives in Hell’s Kitchen, a Manhattan neighborhood through which the A train runs.
To get to the Bronx, Yang could would have had to switch to the B train, or D train at 125th or 145th Street which some people alluded to in tweets that sprung to Yang’s defense.
‘As you can see, you can transfer from A train to other, to get to the Bronx…’ wrote one.
‘He said Bronx “BOUND”, not to the Bronx; he has to transfer’ clarified another.
‘His words literally mean he is heading to the Bronx. I guess he could have written his exact route/transfer to make people feel better,’ added one supporter.
‘The A doesn’t go to the Bronx!! Waaah he shouldn’t run for mayor because of one letter! Man some New Yorkers are annoying AF,’ wrote Danny in a posting on Twitter.
For much of the coronavirus pandemic, Yang did not travel around the city on the subway and instead spent time at his second home in the small city of New Paltz, New York.
