The first major of the golf year is here, and while the bad weather has led to plenty of excitement at the Masters, it couldn’t have come at worse time for Tiger Woods.

The 48-year-old and five-time Masters champion is looking to bounce back from his injury woes and once again impress at Augusta. Earlier this week he stated that he feels he can still win the tournament again.

“If everything comes together, I think I can get one more,” Woods said, adding with a smile: “Do I need to describe that any more than that, or are we good?”

He is also looking to break the record for the most consecutive cuts made at the Masters, a record (23) he currently holds with Fred Couples and Gary Player.

Weather not helping Woods’ cause

However the weather in Georgia isn’t helping Woods in the pursuit of his goals. Thunderstorms, heavy rain and winds forced the first round tee times to be pushed back.

This caused a two-and-a-half hour delay, forcing Woods to get his first round underway at 3:54 pm local time.

As a result the 48-year-old only managed to complete 13 holes on the day at one-under-par, forcing him to finish his first round early Friday morning. The early tee time didn’t help Woods’ cause, as he recorded two bogeys over his last five holes.

The extra action on Friday means Woods will have to complete 23 holes on Friday, which likely won’t do him any favous given his injury woes.

In fact, Woods was forced to withdraw from last year’s Masters, and he even pulled out of the Genesis back in February.

Woods, who faces an uphill climb in his pursuit of making the cut, admitted earlier this week that pain is a challenge he has to overcome when he takes the course.

“Every shot that’s not on a tee box is a challenge,” said Woods.

“The ankle doesn’t hurt anymore. It’s fused. It’s not going anywhere. So that’s fine. It’s other parts of my body that now have to take the brunt of it.

“The back, the knee, other parts of the body have to take the load of it and just the endurance capability of walking a long time and being on my feet for a long time is an issue.

“Things just flare up. The training that we have to do at home, it changes from a day-to-day basis. Some days I just feel really good and other days not so much. I hurt every day.”
