Hawaii island police have identified a body discovered in Hilo Bay Thursday afternoon as 59-year-old David Michael McManus of Waikoloa.

The Hawaii Police Department said an autopsy was performed on McManus today, and its results indicated that there were no signs of foul play, although final results are pending a toxicology and forensic testing.

HPD said that McManus had frequently stayed at a residence in Hilo.

South Hilo officers responded to a call Thursday at around 4:15 p.m. about a body floating in the water about 200 yards from shore in the Hilo Bayfront area.

The body was brought to shore by first responders and was transported to the Hilo Medical Center. A pronouncement of death was made later that day at around 5:30 p.m.

HPD is asking anyone who may have information about the case to call its nonemergency number at 808-935-3311 or Detective Casey Cabral of the Area I Criminal Investigation Section at 808-961-2384 or via Casey.Cabral@hawaiicounty.gov.
