Murray declared for the NBA draft, on March 23, 2016. And, he was selected by the San Antonio Spurs, on June 23, 2016. Thus, it was with the 29th overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft. For the 2016 NBA Summer League, he joined the Spurs. He signed his rookie scale contract with the team, on July 14. On October 29, 2016, in the 2016–17 season, he made his NBA debut.

Likewise, winning over the Los Angeles Lakers, on January 12, 2017, he scored a season-high 10 points in a 134–94 win.
