A mother whose 14-year-old son was killed in a knife attack has made an emotional plea for action to tackle knife crime, as her son’s killer was sentenced to life in prison.
Cools’s family has been working for his justice for over a year, and he has finally been charged and sentenced to 19 years.

Jermaine Cools Stabbed To Death
Jermaine Cools was stabbed with a machete in Croydon, south London, on November 18, 2021.
The incident was caught on camera, and footage released by the police shows 16-year-old Marques Walker attacking before fleeing the scene.
Tragically, Jermaine was the youngest victim of knife crime in London that year and was unarmed at the time of the attack.
Cools was stabbed seven times by Marques Walker in a brutal and senseless attack.
The judge in the case, Sarah Munro KC, described the attack as extreme ferocity and stated that Walker had mercilessly attacked the 14-year-old victim.
She also noted that Jermaine must have been terrified and in agony during the attack.
Lorraine Dudek, the mother of Jermaine, expressed her disappointment and frustration that Marques Walker’s knife-carrying habit was not addressed earlier, calling it a “missed opportunity.”
She believes that if the issue had been dealt with sooner, Walker would not have had the chance to commit such a violent crime.
Dudek further stated that when young males are caught with a knife, the weapon may be confiscated, but they can often obtain another knife within a short time frame using social media platforms like Snapchat.
Her comments highlight the challenges in addressing knife crime and the need for effective solutions beyond confiscating weapons.
Cools had expressed concerns to his parents about knife crime before becoming a victim. After being stabbed in the chest, a passerby took him to the Mayday Hospital, but unfortunately, he did not survive his injuries.
Marques Walker Arrested And Charged For Murder
Marques Walker, a teenager, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of 14-year-old Jermaine, the youngest victim in 2021 of a fatal knife crime.
On November 18, 2021, Marques Walker stabbed 14-year-old Jermaine Cools, lying on the ground outside a chicken shop in south London. Walker was 16 years old at the time.
During his trial, it was revealed that Walker was on bail before six weeks of stabbing Cools for carrying a large knife at the time of the killing.
He pleaded guilty to Jermaine’s murder and possessing a knife earlier this year, although he had initially claimed that he was not guilty.
Walker’s sentencing was broadcast on television in Wales and England following a successful legal challenge by the media.
The judge, Sarah Munro KC, stated that the impact of Jermaine’s violent death was “immeasurable” and that he was a “defenseless” victim.
The stabber has been sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum of 19 years behind bars, and they will minus the time he had already spent in custody.
He had been hiding for six weeks after the murder but was found by chance during another search. The judge mentioned Walker’s repeated possession of knives and said he posed a risk to the public.
