Marty is the third of four children born to Ann Cavalier and George Lagina; he has a younger brother, Rick, and two sisters, Martina and Terese. Career Beginnings
Before setting his mind on Oak Island, Marty spent years in various industries, earning himself a small fortune, starting in the late ‘70s when he was hired as a petroleum engineer by the Amoco Production Company. However, after three years with enough resources and knowledge, Marty left his post and started his own company, Terra Energy Limited, focusing on the development of resources of shale gas in Michigan. As the years passed, Marty opened a distribution network through his company, which made him the largest operator in the line of shale gas. However, Marty, known for his ever-changing mind, had other plans for the future, and sold the company to CMS for a sum of $58 million, using the profit from the sale to start a vineyard business.

Mari Vineyards
Mari Vineyards, which are located in Michigan, produce high-class red wine, and over the years the business has considerably increased in size, which forced Marty to get his son involved and make it a family business. Once his son joined the business, Marty began looking for other opportunities, including Oak Island, and a wind turbine company, Heritage Sustainable.
The Curse of Oak Island
At an early age, Marty and his brother Rick became interested in Oak Island and the mysteries involved; they got their hands on a 1965 issue of Reader’s Digest magazine, which had an article about the Money Pit found on the island. They teamed up to acquire the major part of Oak Island Tours, which owned most of the island, and once they achieved that, they were approached by Prometheus Entertainment to feature in the reality show, now known as “The Curse of Oak Island”. Since the Lagina brothers started their search, they have received help from Dan and Dave Blankenship, who are permanent residents of the island, and have been searching for treasure since the ‘60s.

The show premiered in 2014 and is currently in its sixth season; Marty has featured in 45 episodes of the show, which has made his quite popular with the public. They have continued their exploration of the island, and some of the major discoveries include a 500-year-old gemstone, and a Templar’s cross, among other major findings such as a Roman sword and Portuguese carvings.

His wife went to Ewing High School in Michigan, and later obtained a degree from Reuters College. After graduation, she was hired by Wiser Oil CO., and would later join Marty in his own company, Terra Energy Limited.
