Man City youngster joins Cardiff on loan

Cardiff City have confirmed the loan signing of Josh Wilson-Esbrand from Manchester City.

The 21-year-old spent the first-half of the season on loan at French side Reims, and will now hope to help Cardiff move up from their mid-table position in the second-half of the campaign.

Tottenham youngster Alejo Veliz in Seville for a medical

It has been reported that Alejo Veliz is closing in on a loan move to Sevilla, and is already in Spain after undergoing a medical.

The transfer though is said not to include any option to buy.

Veliz has made eight appearances since joining Spurs last summer.

New Villa signing joins Plymouth on loan

Lino Sousa, who it was today confirmed has joined Aston Villa from Arsenal, has been immediately sent out on loan to Plymouth.

Plymouth manager Ian Foster told the club’s official website;

Lino is somebody that I’ve known for a while. I’ve always been excited by his performances at Arsenal and with the England development teams.’

Armando Broja arrives at Fulham to complete his medical

Chelsea’s Armando Broja has arrived at Fulham’s training ground at Motspur Park to finalise his loan move to the Cottagers.

Just a reminder that Fulham will pay just an initial £750,000 – thoug it could increase to £4m.

Aston Villa winger in talks to join Villarreal

Aston Villa winger Bertrand Traore is in talks to join Villarreal.

He is out-of-favour at Villa and today’s addition of Morgan Rogers from Middlesbrough pushes him even further down the pecking order.

It’s expected Villa would allow him to walk away for nothing.

Reports surrounding Malang and Ismaila Sarr

Rumours out of France are suggesting that Le Havre are looking to sign Malang Sarr from Chelsea.

Meanwhile, West Ham are also attempting to sign former Watford winger Ismaila Sarr on loan but have had no luck so far.

Two potential moves to keep an eye out for in the final hours of the transfer window.

Ajax reject bid from Nottingham Forest for Chuba Akpom

Nottingham Forest have had a busy day but one player it appears they won’t be signing is their former player Chuba Akpom.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Ajax have rejected a bid from Forest and sent a counter-proposal which the Premier League were not keen on.

Some bombshell transfer news… from Formula One

It appears that Formula One is trying to steal the thunder away from football’s deadline day as the bombshell news that Lewis Hamilton will drive for Ferrari in 2025 has been confirmed.

Hamilton has won six of his seven titles since joining Mercedes at 2013, while setting an incredible amount of records during his time with the team.

But now he is looking forward to a new challenge at Ferrari, confirming Mail Sport’s world exclusive last May that the two parties were in talks.

Esteve speaks out on his loan move to Burnley

Esteve has told the club’s website;

I feel very good, I’m really happy and ever since I first heard about the move I wanted to move here.

I have followed the Premier League since being a young child and had only pictured myself ever being here, so I am really excited.

The manager (Vincent Kompany) spoke really positively about the project here and I just wanted to be a part of it straight away.’

Burnley continue their run of excellent announcement videos

Burnley confirm second signing of the January window

Burnley have announced the signing of defender Maxime Esteve from French side Montpellier on loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old centre-back joined the club as a young boy 13 years ago and has gone on to feature over 50 times in the last two-and-a-half seasons.

Wharton explains decision to join the Eagles

It’s a big move for Wharton who only received his first professional contract back in May 2022 – before winning the club’s Young Player of the Year award last season.

Explaining his move to the Eagles, he told the club’s website;

I’ve always wanted to play in the Premier League and to play for such a big club like Crystal Palace is a great honour.

The way they’ve brought players from the Championship and developed them into world-class players in the Premier League is something that stood out to me, and it’s a big reason why I wanted to come here.’

Breaking: Crystal Palace confirm the signing of Adam Wharton from Blackburn

Crystal Palace have completed their second signing of the January window after announcing the addition of Adam Wharton from Blackburn Rovers on a five-and-a-half year deal.

The England U20 international joins Daniel Munoz who arrived from Belgian side Genk.

Mail Sport previously reported that the Eagles were finalising a £22.5m deal for the player.

The club’s chairman Steve Parish told the club’s website;

Adam’s consistently impressive performances for Blackburn at such a young age have understandably caught the eye of many a club, but we believe Palace to be – as has so often been the case in recent years – the perfect place to harness his undoubted potential, and we look forward to working with him in the years ahead to do so.

No Fornals in West Ham’s line-up tonight

He might have made the trip to the London Stadium tonight, but he has failed to make their matchday squad for the first time in the league this season as the Hammers play Bournemouth.

Perhaps just saying his farewells before his expected £7m move to Real Betis.

Isaac Hayden close to joining QPR on loan

Sky Sports are reporting that Newcastle have agreed a deal to send Isaac Hayden out on loan to QPR.

The 28-year-old had spent the first-half of the season on loan at Belgian side Standard Liege, before he was recalled by the injury-hit Magpies.

But he hasn’t featured since his return and now could be on his way to the Championship before tonight’s deadline.

Ex-Newcastle target joins Eintracht Frankfurt on loan

Paris Saint-Germain forward Hugo Ekitike has joined Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt on loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old has previously been linked to a number of Premier League sides including Newcastle.

Now he will play his football in Germany, with the Bundesliga side having an option to make the deal permanent.

One Liverpool youngster staying… another set to leave

Mail Sport’s LEWIS STEELE has confirmed reports that Billy Koumetio is in talks to join Blackburn on loan, after the Championship side had a failed approach for Nat Phillips who instead went to Cardiff.

Meanwhile, Bobby Clark is staying put after approaches from at least two football clubs.

Perhaps not a bad decision seeing how fellow youngster Conor Bradley is flourishing at a time when the Reds have been without a number of key players.

He reports;

Clark, son of former Newcastle star Lee, came off the bench in the Reds’ 4-1 win over Chelsea on Wednesday and has also featured in a Carabao Cup semi-final and against Arsenal this month. Jurgen Klopp sees Clark as part of his first-team plans and decided it was best for him to continue his development at Anfield rather than go out on loan to the Championship or League One.

Nottingham Forest had enquiry for another keeper rejected before moving for Sels

As per Mail Sport’s SAMI MOKBEL;

Nottingham Forest saw an enquiry for Brest goalkeeper Marco Bizot rejected before moving for Matz Sels. Sels is set to complete a move to the City Ground before tonight’s deadline.

But Mail Sport can reveal that Forest enquired about Bizot’s availability on Wednesday night before moving ahead with their move for Sels. Brest are currently third in Ligue 1 and are going for Champions League qualification and therefore immediately turned down Forest’s request.

Forest were also in talks with Crystal Palace over a move for their England goalkeeper Sam Johnstone but his £15million valuation was a stumbling block.

Strange Fornals twist after agreeing move to Real Betis

Pablo Fornals’s £7m transfer to Real Betis has been agreed but he is not off to sunny Spain just yet.

Mail Sport’s KIERAN GILL, who is at the London Stadium for West Ham’s clash with Bournemouth tonight, has reported;

In a strange twist, I’ve just seen Pablo Fornals getting off the team bus at the London Stadium! That is despite it being confirmed that the club have agreed an €8m fee with Real Betis.

West Brom closing in on Johnston

BBC Sport are reporting that Championship promotion hopefuls West Brom are closing in on a move for Celtic winger Mikey Johnston.

Baggies manager Carlos Corberan has been on the lookout for a wide player while Johnston has struggled for playing opportunities after spending last season on loan in Portugal.

Nottingham Forest exploring move for former player

Nottingham Forest could have a very busy end to the transfer window as it’s now been reported by Fabrizio Romano that they are considering a move for Chuba Akpom from Ajax.

Akpom made seven appearances for Forest on loan in 2015, and has also played for the likes of Arsenal, Brentford, Coventry and Hull City.

He only joined Ajax in the summer and could be on his way out despite scoring nine goals in 20 appearances.

Exciting end to the window for Forest fans!

Looks like a Benhrama announcement is imminent!

There’s no clearer indication that a player is about to join a new club than a leaked picture of them in their new colours.

Saying that, it seems that we are closing in on an announcement of Said Benhrama’s loan transfer to struggling French side Lyon from West Ham.

This picture below has surfaced on social media showing the 28-year-old in a Lyon tracksuit.

As reported earlier, Pablo Fornals is also expected be on his way out of West Ham but on a permanent deal to Real Betis for around £7m.

Breaking: Broja heading for Fulham medical

Some breaking news resolving the future of Armando Broja who is set to join Fulham on loan until the end of the season.

Mail Sport’s SAMI MOKBEL reports that the player is heading for a medical at their west London rivals. While SIMON JONES reports that it would be a complex loan agreement which could see the Cottagers pay £4m for the Albanian striker.

Not quite the £5m that Chelsea wanted but some positive news for Fulham who will hope the rest of the process goes smoothly and that Broja can bring some needed attacking reinforcement for the rest of the season.

Liverpool value Kelleher in excess of £20m

We brought you news earlier that Liverpool had rejected a £15m from Nottingham Forest for Republic of Ireland international Caoimhin Kelleher.

Mail Sport’s SIMON JONES reports that the Reds value him in excess of £20m but need the 25-year-old as they chase trophies on four fronts.

You can read our report of Forest’s failed bid for Kelleher below.

Breaking: Manchester United youngster completes Bundesliga transfer

Highly-rated youngster Isak Hansen-Aaroen has left Manchester United and joined Werder Bremen on a permanent transfer.

United fans will be disappointed to lose the Norwegian U21 international who has impressed in their youth ranks, but the club were forced into a decision given his contract situation.

Mail Sport’s CHRIS WHEELER reports;

Isak Hansen-Aarøen has joined Werder Bremen in a permanent deal. The player was out of contract in the summer and understood he wasn’t going to sign a new one. Fee believed to be higher than Utd would have received in compensation at the end of the season.

Liverpool defender closing in on Championship move

More from Blackburn Rovers, as Sky Sports are reporting that Liverpool defender Billy Koumetio is close to joining them on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 21-year-old who has made two senior appearances for the Reds, has had loan spells in Austria and France over recent seasons.

Pablo Fornals sale agreed

More on that Pablo Fornals to Real Betis move, Mail Sport’s KIERAN GILL is reporting that the clubs have agreed a £6.8m move.

If Benhrama also leaves, then surely the Hammers will consider bringing in some extra reinforcement?

Some breaking news from West Ham – Pablo Fornals transfer to Real Betis agreed for €8m (£6.8m). Deal now being finalised.

Fornals been a great servant to West Ham since signing in 2019. If he and Said Benrahma leave, West Ham surely have to add someone to their attack before tonight’s 11pm deadline…

The Duncan McGuire saga continues!

The Orlando City forward looked to be on his way to Blackburn only for Sheffield Wednesday to step in for talks after the Edwood Park club to say the deal was off.

But Blackburn have now returned with a new offer of a loan with fee – and are willing to pay Orlando a higher buy option than was previously agreed.

As per SIMON JONES;

Today, as McGuire was talking to Wednesday and other interested parties, Blackburn made a new proposal and he is now hoping to finalise terms pending his medical.

Let’s see if there are any other twists to come in the saga…

Former Everton defender leaves Fiorentina after just SIX MONTHS at the club

Former Everton defender Yerry Mina has joined Cagliari from Fiorentina until the end of the season.

The Colombia international has made the switch on a permanent basis, but is only contracted until the end of June – with an option to extend for a further season.

Not quite the spell at Fiorentina that Mina wanted, only making four appearances since joining last summer after the expiration of his Everton contract.

Fulham left frustrated in pursuit of attacking reinforcements

Fulham are running out of time to bring in attacking reinforcements after Silas Katompa Mvumpa turned down a loan approach from the Cottagers, as mentioned earlier today.

The DR Congo international could have provided depth in multiple positions, as he can play as a right winger and a striker.

Marco Silva’s side have also been pushing to sign Chelsea’s Armando Broja, but the drawing board is running out of names with over six hours to go.

You can read SIMON JONES’ assessment below.

More on Liverpool rejecting Forest’s £15m bid for Kelleher

Liverpool took note of a transfer which took place last summer as part of their reasoning to reject Forest’s £15m bid for Kelleher.

As per SIMON JONES;

Liverpool have noted that James Trafford went to Burnley from Manchester City for £19million and they consider Kelleher to be at a more advanced stage of development with greater potential, while he already has European experience and has played at full international level.

Pablo Fornals nearing West Ham exit

West Ham’s attacking midfielder Pablo Fornals is reportedly closing in on a move to LaLiga side Real Betis.

The 27-year-old has made over 150 appearances for the Hammers since he joined for £24m from Villarreal back in 2019.

Mail Sport’s SIMON JONES this morning reported that Said Benrahma has agreed a loan deal with Lyon, while Wolves admire striker Danny Ings.

Liverpool reject last-ditch £15m bid for Kelleher

Caoimhin Kelleher has become a reliable understudy to Alisson Becker in recent years at Anfield – notably playing a big part in their FA Cup and Carabao Cup successes back in the 2021-22 season.

As per Mail Sport’s SIMON JONES, that’s the way Jurgen Klopp wants it to stay for the rest of his final season at Anfield after the club rejected a £15m bid from Nottingham Forest.

Forest are instead turning to former Newcastle shot-stopper Matz Sels.

A little throwback to revel in whilst we wait for more crumbs to be dropped from Premier League clubs’ tables.

No move north for Palace’s Johnstone

SAMI MOKBEL eases Palace fears over the future of ‘keeper Sam Johnstone – he’s off the hook as Forest have found a solution in Sels.

Crystal Palace keeper Sam Johnstone is now looking likely to stay at the club after his move to Nottingham Forest fell through.

He was keen to move in order to preserve his Euro 2024 chances with England but Forest are signing Matz Sels from Strasbourg.

Breaking: Silas turns down Fulham loan move!

Back to the list the Cottagers go, it seems like their bid for the Congo international wasn’t enough to tempt him from the Bundesliga.

SIMON JONES says:

Stuttgart striker Silas Katompa Mvumpa looks to have turned down a proposed loan move to Fulham.

But will that be the end of that? I’m sure I have more than one Biblical allusion in me.

The 21-year-old defender has been at Reims on loan this season, but his parent club are keen to see him in action in the Championship, says SIMON JONES.

You can read his full assessment below.

This is where transfer deadline gets interesting… with just under eight hours to go, we’re firmly into heart-breaking collapse territory.

Esteve may have travelled to Manchester, but will he have to book a flight home at 11.05pm?

Breaking: Newcastle SIGN Man City youngster Harrison

As reported earlier today by JACK GAUGHAN, Newcastle have stolen a march on their rivals to ensnare the academy graduate.

Now SIMON JONES has the latest: the 18-year-old midfielder has signed for the Magpies on a two-and-a-half deal.

Fulham are inching closer to Silas loan deal

The offer is in, says Sky Sports Germany… but will Stuttgart let their player go?

No certainty yet on whether the player will get the move, and with it the opportunity to link up with academy player Brad De Jesus (canned laughter).

The Reading exodus continues as Brighton look to continue rearing talented youngsters

Brighton will hope they’ve snapped up another supremely talented, deeply under-the-radar youngster in the form of Reading’s Caylan Vickers.

SIMON JONES says the highly rated 19-year-old is the focus of talks between the two clubs – after previously attracting interest from Real Madrid, Arsenal, and Leicester City since turning professional last July.

Could Silas prove the answer to Fulham’s attacking woes?

We let you know earlier this afternoon that the Congo forward Silas was being targeted by the west London club in their Supermarket Sweep-style approach to finding a striker.

Here SIMON JONES and MATT HUGHES share more details on the Cottagers’ pursuit.

Another out the revolving door in Lancashire – Franchi Goes To Umbria

Burnley’s Italian goalkeeper Denis Franchi, 21, has joined second division Italian side Ternana Calcio on a permanent move, says SIMON JONES.

He joined from Paris Saint-Germain in 2022, but never played a senior game for them.

Vincent Kompany chats through the ins and outs at Turf Moor

Kompany is less coy than his opposite number at Fulham, and has been happily sharing updates on some of the comings and goings at Turf Moor.

On Maxime Esteve, whose move from Montpellier seems a whisker away from completion:

If he’s in Manchester, then you’d think pretty close.

There’s still nothing official until then – but he’s in the building and hopefully we can announce it soon.

It’s a little bit difficult to expand on it because he hasn’t signed yet, so I hope if it does happen everybody will see what we saw in him, but until the ink is on the paper, I’m not going to say too much.

On Connor Roberts’ imminent possible departure for Leeds:

The fact is some players haven’t played as much, it’s important for us to go in the next 16 games making that our priority. I understand that players want to play and if they get an opportunity to do that we are not going to deny them that.

On Manuel Benson, who could also be heading for the exit in the next few hours.

There’s zero shame in coming up from the Champ and having a tough first season in the Prem. It’s a different beast. Lads are adapting and doing the best they can in training.

I’ve no complaints, they’ve been exceptional. But we have to have a squad that’s ready to compete and we don’t want players wasting a year for no reason.

Another fly in Fulham’s ointment – Ekitike flying in the other direction

The Cottagers will have to go back to that 20-strong list again, as their Broja alternative appears to have been whisked away from them by Eintracht Frankfurt…

UPDATE: Another loan move for Holgate as Blades win out against Stuttgart

Sheffield United are edging closer to securing the signature of Everton’s Mason Holgate, as Mail Sport reported earlier today, but it’ll be for a loan move as Everton conclude their business during this window.

Mail Sport’s man on Merseyside LEWIS STEELE has more:

Holgate spent the first half of the season on loan at Championship side Southampton but failed to break into their best XI. Everton see the move to the South Yorkshire club as a good move for his development.

Everton are unlikely to do any further business this window.

Stuttgart were also in the running to sign the loanee, but the Bundesliga side have missed out.

Former Spurs youth star joins Sunderland on four-year deal

The 20-year-old winger’s deal will keep him at the Stadium of Light until 2028.

On that note, do not try and ask Marco Silva about his club’s transfer plans

When asked about Broja by Sky Sports News, the Fulham head coach showed off his best stonewall response.

No cracking under questioning from the Portuguese boss. But might he have allowed himself a wry smile on the inside?

Fulham are starting to get down to attacking business with shot at Silas

SIMON JONES has the latest on what we can assume (or hope) is one of the 20 names Fulham have under review.

Fulham have made an approach to sign Stuttgart’s versatile forward Silas Katompa Mvumpa on loan.

The 25-year-old Congo international can play as a right winger striker and has six goals this season.

Arsenal could book yet another loan spell away for young talent, with Monlouis attracting attention from Reading

The Gunners are really shaking things up for their young cohort, notes SAMI MOKBEL, with yet another academy player potentially going out for a stint on loan.

This would be the first loan spell of the 20-year-old’s career.

Former West Ham youth star was promoted to the first team ahead of the start of the season, but has seen limited action under Moyes.

However, SIMON JONES shares, that doesn’t mean the Hammers are willing to let their player go and sow his oats on loan.

Read his full report on Mubama’s status below.

Arsenal to cut short youngster’s contract for permanent Danish move

The Icelandic ‘keeper has made six Championship appearances this season, and is set to be back on the road for good following loan stints at Alanyaspor and OH Leuven.

Sels deal worth around £5.5million

SIMON JONES has the figures behind Forest’s late move, with the club negotiating down from his £10m asking price.

The 31-year-old will undergo his medical later today.

I mentioned Urinboev what feels like 15 hours ago, but it’s now a done deal for the former Pakhtakor Tashkent teenager.

SIMON JONES has all the details below.

Stoke youngster Tezgel to develop at MK Dons

As per JOE BERNSTEIN, there’s news out of Milton Keynes, with the club preparing to welcome 18-year-old forward Emre Tezgel.

Stoke City’s England youth international Emre Tezgel is joining MK Dons on loan to aid his development with first-team football.

The 18-year-old Burton-born forward has represented England at under-17s level and made six senior appearances for Stoke.

Breaking: Forest to add Sels to their goalkeeping ranks after priority search

As revealed on today’s It’s All Kicking Off – Transfer Week podcast, SAMI MOKBEL has the latest on the Strasbourg ‘keeper, who is thought to be en route to Nottingham as we speak.

No budging for Benrahma now – move to Lyon imminent

With the airport a mere 17 minute drive from Lyon’s training ground, we can keep the fantasy of having correctly tracked his plane alive.

L’Equipe’s reporting suggests much of the final discussion may have taken place whilst the Algeria international was in the air, but it looks like Benrahma’s loan move will almost certainly go through now.

MATT BARLOW saw Gil staying in north London earlier today, but things can turn on a sixpence on Transfer Deadline Day, and the Spaniard could yet be playing on the south coast… or in south Holland… by the end of the day.

You can read his report here.

Lots in the offing but few pay-offs as things stand

It’s fair to say we’ve not had a wealth of Premier League deals announced as things stand.

But we’ve still got just over nine hours to go… You may choose which tone of voice to read that sentence in your head.

Burnley creative directors to start work on an announcement video moodboard imminently

Things are getting closer and closer between Rennes defender Assignon and Burnley, says JACK GAUGHAN, and the Clarets might also look to move on a few more players following interest from Leeds in Roberts.

Rennes full back Lorenz Assignon is currently on his way to England to complete a move to Burnley. That’ll then free up Connor Roberts to finalise the loan switch to Leeds United.

There remains interest in attackers Manuel Benson and Anass Zaroury, so maybe worth keeping an eye on those two later in the day.

Stockport bank on recruits to bolster League Two promotion push

With little to offer from his Newcastle patch, CRAIG HOPE has the latest on former Magpies’ defender Lewis Cass.

Stockport are set to strengthen their League Two promotion push with the addition of defender Lewis Cass.

I understand the 23-year-old former Newcastle man will join on loan from Port Vale.

Benrahma has landed!

Another TDD stalwart? Amateur air traffic control operators logging tail numbers and working out exactly which private jet their superstar might be landing in.

With a dearth of truly blockbuster deals in the offing, eagle-eyed Benrahma-watchers think they’ve cracked his flight path.

If they’re correct, the Algeria international’s Cessna – which took off at London’s City Airport at 11.30am – has just landed at Lyon Airport Saint-Exupery.

It wouldn’t be Transfer Deadline Day without a mention of Kylian Mbappe

What will we have to talk about when he actually does go to Real Madrid? A sobering thought.

Who are YOUR top three greatest January signings?

Ian Ladyman put this question to Craig Hope during his turn on It’s All Kicking Off – Transfer Week a few days ago, but how do his answers line up with your own?

Mail Sport’s Kathryn Batte also gave us a glimpse at her top picks – although she had some argument with the parameters.

Ben Godfrey also preparing to move away from Goodison Park

It could be all change for Sean Dyche’s stricken squad, with the club preparing to fight off suitors to keep hold of the 26-year-old.

As per SIMON JONES, the Toffees have already rebuffed interest from AC Milan, and could face more offers.

Sheffield United eye Everton’s Mason Holgate

The 27-year-old has struggled at Everton but could be handed a fresh start at Bramall Lane, according to SIMON JONES.

Holgate, who has been on loan at SOUTHAMPTON, has been a long-term target for manager Chris Wilder.

He has not enjoyed the best of times over the past 18 months and is eager to kickstart his career under Wilder.

Stuttgart had also made an enquiry for the former England U21 international

The defender is expected to undergo a medical later today.

As reported earlier, Burnley have found themselves at somewhat of an impasse with Thomas Meunier. Focus now shifts to Lorenz Assignon, who has been popped on a plane from Paris as talks progress.

Assignon was previously targeted by Galatasaray, who have been gazumped, and Burnley in turn could yet see Connor Roberts move to Leeds.

You can read SIMON JONES and SAMI MOKBEL’S assessment below.

Fulham continue to make moves as if the transfer window has a postage stamp-sized pane, looking now to Lyon after their deal for Benrahma from West Ham was all but confirmed.

SIMON JONES has more below.

Bournemouth move on Kieffer Moore after claiming Unal

With the likely capture of the Getafe striker all but confirmed whilst he undergoes his medical in Madrid, the Cherries are free to wave goodbye to Moore, who will help the Tractor Boys with their promotion push.

You can find all the confirmed deals of the window in one helpful article, linked here.

Sheffield United might have to fend off interest from Premier League rivals over Arblaster

19-year-old Oliver Arblaster has been recalled from his loan at Port Vale, SIMON JONES reports, but Chris Wilder could have a tough time clinging onto his player.

The Blades are preparing for an onslaught of bids during the summer window should the midfielder continue to distinguish himself at Premier League level, with Brighton, Brentford, and Newcastle among the clubs interested.

Albion Rovers forward Joe Bevan books move to Burnley

Despite a slew of swirling targets, Burnley have now secured their first deal of the day – Scottish forward Joe Bevan.

Let’s see what the auteurs over in the Clarets’ social media department have for us as an announcement video, then.

There’ll be no move for the Denmark midfielder this afternoon, MATT BARLOW reports, despite the scant game-time the player has received under Ange Postecoglou.

Brighton close to bagging Sunderland midfield startlet Josh Robertson

CRAIG HOPE offers up news that Josh Roberson, 18, has travelled to Brighton and is set to complete a move today.

The Seagulls capitalised on uncertainty over the midfielder’s contract situation, with his deal set to expire in the summer.

Leeds look to draft in new recruits from Burnley and Leicester

As well as continuing progressive talks with Burnley over the loan signing of Connor Roberts, the Yorkshire club have also joined Sheffield United by asking about Leicester City’s Harry Souttar, says SIMON JONES.

According to earlier news, there was an agreement in the offing for the Blades… could Leeds overleap the Premier League side?

Said Benrahma heads for the exit at the London Stadium

Fulham leave it late to draw up striker wish-list

A move which invites the question – could this not have been typed up three days ago?

JOE BERNSTEIN details the Cottagers’ desperate hunt for a striker – who may or may not being named Armando Broja.

Fulham staff have been at the training ground since the early hours in their search for a striker.

As colleagues have reported Armando Broja and Hugo Ekitike head a list of up to 20 names that have been mooted.

They include Ajax’s Chuba Akpom although the Amsterdam club are reluctant to let him go and have turned down a bid of 12.5million Euros from a club in France

Where in the world will Armando Broja end up?

Not Craven Cottage, unless Chelsea drastically reduce their price says KIERAN GILL.

Text from Fulham source is short and simple: ‘Broja too expensive.’ Chelsea pricing their striker out of the move so Marco Silva’s side are assessing other targets, one of those being Paris Saint-Germain’s Hugo Ekitike, as revealed by Mail Sport’s Matt Hughes.

Ekitike was formerly a West Ham target – he’s been keen on a switch to the Premier League for some time.

It’s down to Chelsea to lower their valuation if they want to sell or loan Broja.

SIMON JONES has more on Hansen-Aaroen’s move away from Old Trafford

As mentioned below, the teenager will look for a fresh start at Werder Bremen in a permanent move.

The 19-year-old is not thought to have seen the possibility of first team progression – you can read the rest of the report below.

More movement in Manchester as United cut ties with teenage winger

As per Mail Sport’s JOE BERNSTEIN, the club have agreed the termination of 18-year-old Adam Berry’s contract meaning the winger is now a free agent.

Berry, who plays on the left, made his debut for United under-18s when aged just 15.

Give us a smile, Enzo!

For a man on 69 points in the Championship on the first day of February, Enzo Maresca has looked a surly figure of late.

But TOM COLLOMOSSE shares his reasons to be cheerful on a sunny Thursday morning.

Is there a more prickly manager in English football than Enzo Maresca?

A former member of Pep Guardiola’s backroom team, Maresca was handed one of the most impressive squads in the history of the Championship and at Leicester and is making the most of it by leading them towards instant promotion.

But he wants more love from Foxes fans bored at his painstaking sub-Manchester City playing style and grumpily threatened to leave this week if he did not get it.

However, this should put a smile on Maresca’s face: Italian midfielder Stefano Sensi is finally set to join on loan from Inter Milan, with a £2m fee payable if they go up.

Feyenoord look to derail Brighton’s plans for Bryan Gil

Bryan Gil could find himself a man in demand. Whilst injury to Manor Solomon might mean the Spain international stays at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a number of top-flight clubs are clamouring for the shaggy-haired midfielder’s services.

Football agent shares trade secrets on BBC 5Live

BBC Radio 5Live have invited agent Roberto de Fanti on – presumably because he has comparatively little to do today – and he shares his thoughts on why this Transfer Deadline Day has been less deals, deals, deals, and more… no deals, no deals, no deals.

It’s been a quieter window compared to other year’s due to the compliance of the new rules. The winter window is always very different to the summer one.

If you work in the business you understand what clubs are looking for. When a club ends up in the last 48 or 24 hours still looking for players, I would say almost everything is up for grabs because they become pretty desperate.

Wolves could pounce as Fulham flip-flop over Broja

Gary O’Neil is pushing for greater attacking options and Fulham’s unwillingness to pull the trigger just as Chelsea slash their price for the Albania international could be Wolves’ gain.

TOM COLLOMOSSE has more here:

Wolves are following the Armando Broja situation closely. They had been tracking the Chelsea forward all month, only to press pause on the deal – as revealed by Mail Sport in January – because the proposed loan deal contained an obligation to buy at £35m.

That was deemed too high by Wolves, and so is the current loan fee of £5m.

If that drops, though, their position may change.

Save for a few outgoings, Arsenal have been relatively quite

… and Mail Sport’s ISAAN KHAN predicts more of the same as the hours run down.

Arsenal are set to have more youngsters going out the club today.

Mail Sport understands that the north London club are working on outgoing deals for at least a further two young players.

It follows Lino Sousa signing for Aston Villa yesterday before being loaned out to Plymouth, and Charles Sagoe Jr finalising his loan move to Swansea.

Man United wave goodbye to Isak Handsen-Aaroen

As per BBC Sport, the 19-year-old academy graduate – who hasn’t made a first team appearance all season – will move permanently to Werder Bremen and the Bundesliga, rather than leaving on loan.

The It’s All Kicking Off team are recording a fresh podcast every day this transfer deadline week, and whilst you wait patiently for today’s iteration, why not look through MIKE KEEGAN’S thoughts on Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s spending plans at Man United?

Needless to say, things will be learned from windows past.

All Quiet on the Northeastern Front

If you’re waiting for Newcastle to make moves in the window, I – or rather Mail Sport’s CRAIG HOPE – have some disappointing news for you.

Transfer update from Tyneside… there isn’t one! As we reported on Monday, the club weren’t expecting any incomings after Miguel Almiron’s move to Saudi Arabia did not progress. The player wanted to stay at St James’ Park. Because of PSR restrictions, that meant Newcastle had no headroom to bring a player in and, as a result, they will see out the season with the current squad.

One big concern is the injury to Alexander Isak. Sources say the initial expectation was ‘a few weeks’ following the game at Aston Villa on Tuesday. However, more news is awaited on that front. Either way, it leaves the likelihood that Eddie Howe will be forced to start with Anthony Gordon as a central striker against Luton on Saturday with Callum Wilson still returning from a calf layoff. He has a chance of making the bench at best.

Exclusive: MATT HUGHES on Fulham’s talks with PSG’s Hugo Ekitike as Cottagers hunt Broja alternative

Fulham are in talks with Paris Saint Germain over a loan move for French striker Hugo Ekitike. The 21-year-old has emerged over the last 24 hours as an alternative target to Armando Broja, as Fulham are unwilling to pay the £5million loan fee being demanded by Chelsea.

PSG are understood to be willing to listen to offers for Ekitike with their priority finding the right club who will provide him with game-time over the remainder of the season rather than securing a specific loan fee.

The 21-year-old former youth international spent last season on loan at PSG from Stade Reims before completing a £24million move last summer, but has only made one appearance for Luis Enrique’s side this season.

Fulham have been monitoring Ekitike for some time and considered making a bid last summer, but were put off by PSG’s £30m-plus valuation.

Villa plumps for teenage West Ham starlet

The 16-year-old Baggies player will cross city lines to join Villa, who have been making hay with their outgoings, but who have been relatively light on recruitments.

Before the end of the day however, Morgan Rodgers may also be joining Unai Emery’s squad – he’s due to undergo a medical with a deal between Villa and Middlesbrough agreed.

An answer to that eternal question… WHY is everything taking so long?

TOM COLLOMOSSE shares his two-penny’worth on why deals that appear simple at first glance patently… aren’t.

Why do deals that appear relatively straightforward on the face of it often seem to take days or weeks to complete?

Spoke to a recruitment expert and they said that because there is so much money at stake, even a move of 0.5 per cent on an aspect of the deal can swing millions of pounds in either direction.

So everyone digs in and waits for the other side to fold.

Wrexham ramps up promotion push with eye-catching recruitment

Mail Sport’s NATHAN SALT has his ear to the ground at the League Two side, who currently sit second less than six months after they gained promotion.

Seemingly on a collision course with the Premier League, the side are looking to bolster their squad in January – and could break a club record in the process.

Busy morning at the Racecourse Ground with Luke Bolton and Jack Marriott being unveiled. But Phil Parkinson is not done yet.

Mail Sport understands the Hollywood-backed League Two side are working on a deal to smash their transfer record for Rotherham midfielder Jamie Lindsay.

Been told it could be very, very late, though, so plenty of work to do.

Wolves loan out attacker… but still no sign of incomings

TOM COLLOMOSSE has the latest as Wolves wave goodbye to one attacking option with no sign of another in sight.

One out at Wolves with young attacker Theo Corbeanu set to join Granada on a permanent deal. The Canadian, still only 21, has never been able to make an impact at Molineux but will have a chance to kickstart his career in La Liga.

Breaking: At least ONE jaw-dropping deal to report today

But for something a little more heart-stopping –

Consider Lewis Hamilton’s decision to trade in Mercedes for Ferrari in 2025!

It may not be football – but this bombshell report is certainly worth a read.

Mail Sport’s MATT BARLOW shares his thoughts on a seemingly placid day for Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou does not sound like a manager expecting to add to his Tottenham squad today. ‘As I said yesterday, it’s unlikely and I guess less likely than yesterday,’ said Postecoglou on Wednesday after his team beat Brentford 3-2.

Any activity is around the fringes and development players with Sevilla interested in a loan deal for young Argentine striker Alejandro Veliz, who is currently injured. Sevilla want a striker on loan and are among those to have asked about Carlos Vinicius of Fulham.

Bryan Gil’s hopes of another loan move appear to have been fouled by another setback for Manor Solomon in his recovery from a knee injury. Gil was in the bench against Brentford.

Tottenham are interested in Swedish teenager Lucas Bergvall if his proposed £17m move from Djurgardens to Barcelona falls through.

Fulham currently unwilling to pay £5m loan fee for Armando Broja. Cottagers very firm in their insistence that they won’t meet those conditions.

Burnley close in on Rennes right back Lorenz Assignon

Although a number of clubs have opted out of feverish business this transfer window, Burnley may not prove one of them – as per Foot Mercato, they’re in the process of flying 23-year-old defender Assignon from Paris to Turf Moor after the club is thought to have hijacked a deal in the wings with Galatasaray.

Bournemouth agree deal for Getafe’s Unal subject to medical

SIMON JONES let us know that talks were afoot just over an hour ago, and now it looks like things have snowballed, and Unal is preparing to undergo a medical in Madrid today.

As per Jones’ earlier note, this could mean that the club let Kieffer Moore go to Ipswich Town, or potentially Sunderland, who are also interested.

Liverpool target video analyst for top behind-the-scenes role

Mail Sport’s DOMINIC KING has the inside scoop behind the scenes at Anfield:

Liverpool have targeted Jansen Moreno to be their new Head of Opposition Analysis.

Moreno is well respected within industry, having previously worked at Huddersfield, Norwich and is currently with Gibraltar FA, where he is the head of Youth Developmemt.

Moreno worked with David Wagner at Huddersfield and also had a spell earlier in his career working at Brighton.

It is understood discussions have been going on for much of the past month and this would represent a fantastic opportunity for Moreno.

Currently in the midst of preparations for Ivory Coast’s quarter-final match-up against Mali on Saturday, movements behind the scenes could see Aurier play his next match at AFCON as a Turkish Super Liga player.

Wrexham sign Fleetwood Town striker Jack Marriott

The 29-year-old former Ipswich Town and Luton player will bolster Phil Parkinson’s attacking ranks in north Wales.

Expect a quiet end to the window from the Hammers

Mail Sport’s man in east London KIERAN GILL offers this missive from a somewhat despondent-looking West Ham.

I’m told David Moyes isn’t impressed that for the second transfer deadline day running, West Ham are playing a Premier League game. Imagine if they were interested in a Bournemouth player, how awkward that would be at the London Stadium tonight. West Ham tried to sign Dominic Solanke in the summer but their bid, described as a ‘big offer’, was turned down.

I’ll be at the London Stadium later for that one. But as of this morning, West Ham aren’t close to signing anyone. One source has messaged to say their only business today is expected to be Said Benrahma to Lyon, if indeed that gets over the line.

West Ham were interested in Ibrahim Osman of Danish side Nordsjaelland and Al-Ittihad’s Jota, but those potential transfers have encountered complications, so it’s looking like Kalvin Phillips will be the club’s only arrival in this window unless a target suddenly becomes available later.

LONDON, ENGLAND - JANUARY 26: New signing Kalvin Phillips takes part in his first training session after signing for the club at Rush Green on January 26, 2024 in Romford, England. (Photo by West Ham United FC/Getty Images)

A heaped spoonful of pessimism over on BBC 5Live

… where BBC Sport journalist Simon Stone has just admitted:

I don’t think it’s going to be the most exciting deadline day in the world.

Speak for yourself – I for one am fascinated by developments over whether Broja will stay or go in west London – or stay, in west London, somewhere else in the postcode.

And there’s still a long 13-and-a-bit hours to go… Who knows what could happen.

Forest add Sporting Lisbon loanee to their swelling ranks

As per Mail Sport’s TOM COLLOMOSSE, Forest have quickly made up the deficit, and brought in a new 18-year-old forward from Portugal.

Sporting Lisbon forward Rodrigo Ribeiro, 18, joins Forest on loan in a deal that could become permanent in the summer.

Newcastle steal a march on rivals to nab Man City youngster Alfie Harrison

Man City expert JACK GAUGHAN checks in with an update that could prove enticing for Newcastle fans…

He writes:

Newcastle’s move to sign Manchester City youngster Alfie Harrison could end up totalling around £3.5million.

The 18-year-old hasn’t featured for Pep Guardiola’s first team but has impressed for the academy sides.

And Newcastle stole a march on others to finalise a deal for Harrison. The initial fee is thought to be lower than the £3.5m, which is dependent on the triggering of clauses. City have also inserted a sell-on percentage.

Bournemouth shuffle the pack with late move for Getafe striker

There could be a merry-go-round whirring into action on the south court, as Bournemouth look to sharpen up their attack.

As per SIMON JONES:

Bournemouth have asked about a deal for ex Man City striker Enes Unal, 26, at Getafe.

If they get one in, then Kieffer Moore likely to go to Ipswich Town. Sunderland have asked about him too.

Movement on the south coast as Brighton loan Syrian-German midfielder

The midfielder moved to Brighton over the summer on a four-year deal, but has struggled for playing time at the Amex, making just nine league appearances.

Chelsea softening over Broja sale

The west London side slapped a punchy price tag on their academy graduate at the start of the window, forcing a number of clubs who might have made a play for the striker to look elsewhere.

But SIMON JONES reports that the Premier League side could be wavering over their hard line just hours before the deadline closes.

Chelsea have softened their stance over their £50m valuation for Armando Broja and, as expected, will consider a loan, so Fulham will try again.

Others may also come to table

Wolves maintained an interest in the player, and could come sniffing around again after their pursuit of Alberto was thwarted…

Nottingham Forest ‘are the poster boys of FFP’ after being charged by the Premier League over ‘astonishing’ spending, says Ian Ladyman

Brentford break new ground in English football

One of the quainter stories of the window, proving that even in the midst of habitual 21st-century seen-it-all, done-it-all cynicism, there are still some firsts left in the transfer window.

More on Forest’s late goalkeeper search

Mail Sport’s Sami Mokbel has all the latest on Nottingham Forest’s deadline-day search for a goalkeeper:

Nottingham Forest will accelerate their efforts to land a new goalkeeper this morning with Strasbourg goalkeeper Matz Sels among the serious candidates on their radar.

Forest have registered an interest with Strasbourg over a deadline day switch for Sels, while Palace keeper Sam Johnstone is also of interest to Nuno Espirito Santo.

Sels, a Belgium international, is open to moving to the City Ground and would cost around £10million – cheaper that Johnstone, who Palace are looking to recoup £15million for.

Any activity at Old Trafford today?

Manchester United have been known to do the odd surprise deal of late – Odion Ighalo, Wout Weghorst and Sergio Reguilon to name a few – so it is not out of the question that they shock us again on deadline day.

Erik ten Hag has said there is no room to do any major deals but with concerns over Marcus Rashford following his 12-hour Belfast bender and Anthony Martial out injured, they could certainly do with attacking reinforcements.

Expected the unexpected with United these days…

Forest could well be busy in the final hours of the window.

Mail Sport has reported that Forest have resumed talks with Crystal Palace for goalkeeper Sam Johnstone after a loan offer was dismissed earlier this week.

Forest are proposing a £15m deal for 30-year-old Johnstone who is keen on the move to boost his chances of a return to the England squad.

Armando Broja – will he stay or go?

There has been much talk about Broja’s future given his lack of gametime at Chelsea and the fact shifting him will help the club adhere to FFP restrictions.

Chelsea value Broja at £50m and although it unclear if Marco Silva’s side will offer that price, they are likely to make a bid, expected to be nearer to £30m, as they look to strike some sort of deal.
