Devin Haney got embarrassed in front of the world on Saturday night by Ryan Garcia, but the losing fighter went out of his way to make it worse. Haney was filmed shamelessly celebrating after the loss by throwing a private party more fitting of a birthday than someone who just got knocked down three times by a social media troll.

Why was Devin Haney celebrating after losing the fight?

“We love you, champ,” read the message on the celebratory cake. Sparklers burned while Haney’s family and friends chanted, “and still,” referring to the fact that Haney retained his WBC super lightweight title despite the loss.

Fans did not see that as an achievement worth celebrating.

“Can’t lie this is immensely shameless,” one fan replied to the video on Twitter/X.

“Nah this is embarrassing,” said another, to the tune of over 5,000 likes.

Does Haney still have the WBC title?

Haney lost to Garcia by majority decision, but because Garcia missed weight by three pounds, he was ineligible to earn the World Boxing Council (WBC) belt even though he won the fight.

Most fans were under the impression that Haney could still lose the belt if he lost the fight, and it would remain vacated. But a shocking decision from WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman after the fight is what gave Haney something to celebrate.

Citing a Corrales vs Castillo fight from 2005, he announced Haney would remain WBC champion.

In Haney’s defense, he didn’t look thrilled while his family recorded the celebrations. He may have kept the belt, but Garcia left Barclays Center with some of his pride.
