It remains to be seen as to whether McGregor will have the chance to watch his country in action.

The quarter-final takes place on the same night that his MMA sparring partner and friend Dillon Danis makes his boxing debut against YouTube star Logan Paul.

Either way, McGregor will be hoping that his country can make history and pull off a huge upset in France.

Ireland hooker Dan Sheehan has reiterated that his team ‘want to go the whole way’ and win the Rugby World Cup this year as they look to come out victorious on Saturday night.

‘We said at the start of the competition that we want to go the whole way, we think we have the squad to do it,’ said Sheehan.

‘We can’t look past (the game) but the pride of being in this squad, it extends further than me. It goes to family and friends. The amount of people I have traveling over every week just to see me for two seconds after the game, I know they come over for a bit of a party, but it’s great to bring a bit of enjoyment and pride to the Irish people.

‘Something I always think about is how many people it touches back home. It’s great but you can’t really get lost in it. I have a job to do, we have to go out and perform. We can think about that after.’

The clash will get underway from 8pm UK time.
