As someone who has been in the public eye for 15 years, she’s certainly faced her fair share of disparaging comments.

But instead of letting them get her down, Stacey Solomon has said she finds the ‘effort’ that online trolls go to ‘hilarious’ and has made her ‘peace’ with them.

The former X Factor contestant, 34, who has rebranded herself as a TV presenter and DIY guru, said she thinks it’s ‘funny’ that people take the time to write negative things about her on social media.

Ms Solomon has built up a social media empire with 5.9 million Instagram followers and has developed a thick skin, retraining herself to see nasty comments in a different way.

‘I find trolls hilarious. I’ve made peace in my mind with them,’ she told the Radio Times.

‘Do you know how much effort it is for someone to post a comment? About one per cent of the people that see your post will comment.  That is a small minority of people.

‘Imagine going to all that effort to say something horrible. It’s almost funny that they’ve used their time and energy because I’m upsetting them that much.’

Ms Solomon, who finished in third place during The X Factor in 2009, shares a candid look at her life with husband Joe Swash and their five children on her Instagram account.

She has been praised for her realistic portrayal of family life and of herself, in an industry filled with surgically-enhanced influencers posting filtered photos.

‘This probably sounds weird when I say it, but I think I’m really pretty,’ she said. ‘I know that sounds really big-headed, but I like what I look like. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with me.

‘I don’t necessarily feel like I’m confident in my skin or not confident; I just feel very neutral about what I look like.’

She said that, if she were ‘really bothered’ about the way she looked then she would ‘get work done’ but that she doesn’t ‘put that much onus on what I see in the mirror.’

She added: ‘I mean, I’m not Claudia Schiffer! I’m me!’

Ms Solomon has fronted a number of DIY and craft programmes for the BBC including Sort Your Life Out and Stacey Solomon’s Crafty Christmas

She said that she has seen her success come and go over the years but that her family have ‘kept her grounded’ and have ‘reminded me that nothing in life is guaranteed.’

She said: ‘It’s all relative. Sometimes my status has been really high and up there, and sometimes it’s been much further down the ladder and I’ve had to ride it out.’
